Subject: 4X4 selector movement IP: Logged
Message: Hi all. I have a 2000 Dak Club Cab 4x4 3.9.
I noticed that if I look down at the 4x4 selector lever on the ground while I'm driving that it moves and rattles a bit when the tranny shifts, or when going over bumps. I've only had the truck for 3 months and I don't know if it did this from day one or what. Is this normal? I would think it should be solid....

Message: It's completely normal... if you put your hand on it and accelarate, you'll even feel it pull... It is of course, connected to the transfer case which is in turn connected to the transmission... and the transmission in solid, of course... but with all the suspension parts, and brackets and joints, there is always a little leeway in the movements of the body compared to that of the transmission. When stopping fast, the body jerks forward, when accelerating fast, the body falls back... thats why you aee it move like it does. Not only that, but the transmission is the main ingredient in making the truck move, so you gotta figure it has its share of movements and what not.
But overall, it is completely normal.
