Subject: What years can I use...
IP: Logged

Message:
Hello,

I have a 2k3 dakota 3.9L auto. I am thinking about stroking the motor, and other mods. What I want to do is get another kota, and take the parts off of that truck, mod them, and then put them on my new truck. That way I don't have a lot of down time. I have seen a few kotas in the paper for sale, but I want to know what years have the same motor(magnum) and tranny (I don't know what type but it has over-drive).

Thanks

House

To start with, I'm not going to be much help, so I just want to get that out in the clear here... I'm just mearly going to give some advice ; ))

To start with, as ussuall, Larry is by far the best person to answer your questions... Infact he could probably give you exact part numbers and prices for the crank and everything you'll need...

BUT my advice is to start putting aside lots of money, because I think a single crank runs $1500 to $2000 depending on which one you go with... I've probably got a little over $5000, closer to $6000, just in my motor build, but I think $1200 of that was just in sensors and miscellanious "guess that's how you spell it :))" stuff from the dodge dealership... AND that's only valve train, ignition, exhaust, and head moddifying...

Transmission wise, well while your into it, you might as well go ahead and put a diff torque converter and performance shift kit in it while you've got the motor pulled, so I wouldn't be too particular about that... You may even want to "since your building the engine quite a bit" go ahead and put in a T56 6speed anyway... AND change your rearend gears and so forth as well...

AND since it's a 2003 model, your warranty will deffinately be void in doing something like this to it... So as long as your not worried about that one, your allright there...

I can understand why you want a different vehicle to do the mods to, since it may take "with part orders and everything" up to 3 months to get it built... Well only about 2 weeks to put it all back together, but months on waiting on orders... BUT I don't understand why you would want to do the mods to the other motor and drive train, then turn around and put them into the new truck... Why not just buy another cheaper truck, bassically same year range "2000+", and just do all the mods to it and not worry about switching all the parts around all of the time...

Hope I was of some assistance...

92 to 95 same motor diff intake manifold
96 to 03 all the same

Trans, around 96 97 they went to the RE electric
gov presure you can tell by the plug on the trans
RH has 3 wires, RE has 6 wires and a roundish plug
with the RH being an oval shape

Your 03 is a 42RE

A stroker kit with crank rods bearings and pistons
cost around $3000 strokerkits.com

Yep that is the stroker kit that I am looking at. I plan on doing all the work to the trany, and motor, then drop them in my kota. I am thinking about picking up a junk yard special to take the motor, and hence I can not just mod that one and drive it...it is rolled. But yeah, motor, tranny, allready have the gears (3.91) but I need a lsd. I hope to be in at least the 15s by the end of summer, and yes, trust me, I know that it will take some money.

Thanks
