Message: You could always get a gallon at every gas station near your home and have it professionally analyzed to determine what bad gas is. I just don't buy into this bad gas argument. Come on. Guess I'm lucky it's never happened to me in twenty years of driving. Move to the left coast people.

Message: Well i have tryed conoco, cenex and exxon brand gas..
i found that using conoco my milage dropped by 1 mpg... exxon my milage also dropped about 1 mpg
cenex has been my base count since no other seems to get me better mileage. My low mileage v6 gets 13.5- 14 it doesnt seem to vary much unless i pull something or haul something very heavy
and yes believe it i seen 12 mpg and at one time seen 7 mpg (from a tank of bad gas at holiday) at 7 mpg my dads ford with the 460 v8 gets better milage then that... it gets 11-12

Message: how many times did you use those brands of gas Just Looking?
when did you get the gas? weekend? weekday? an hour after the station tanks were refilled? just before the station tanks were refilled?
which refineries were used in your tests?
was it the same each time you tested each station?
who hauled the gas to the station in your test?
was it the same each time you tested each station?
where did you drive after filling up? was it the same each time for each brand?
what was the weather like when you filled up? was it the same each time for each brand?
what brand gas did you use between the test gasses?
have you corroborated your results with drivers of other vehicles that filled up with the same brands at the same times you did?
did you change your oil or do any other maintenace between brands?
don't they teach the Scientific Method in schools anymore?
does no one use it anymore?
or are you telling us your "test" was not flawed in any of these ways?
and just what is "bad gas" anyway?
(besides what happens after i go to my local taco shop.)
do you mean stale gas? how is that possible? no one buys gas at the gas stations you went to?
do you mean contaminated gas? did someone piss in your gas tank?
what is bad gas??

Message: yes we tested the gas in different vehicles and i would put 300 miles on my tank give or take 10 miles with 89 octane at the same pumps on days that averaged from 85-110 F
a 92 jeep cherokee V6 on 89 octane lost 2 mpg switching over from cenex to conoco and only 1 on exxon
a 99 dodge minivan V6 lost only .5 mpg off of conoco and only .5 mpg on exxon but used 85.5 octane and always has. this particular vehicle was the only one that used a coil packs to fire each cylinder that made the interesting turn in the test as u can see by the numbers plus the fact it used lower octane hmmm...
and each station was visited 3 times by all the vehicles mentioned
as for oil changes they were done regularly at 3000 miles give or take 50 miles with same brand oil and filter
tuneups where never done during the test only oil changes
ok this can be a lot longer...but...
i say just look for what works for u and try the diff stations most of them have the same price so what are u loosing? maybe a 2 mile extra drive
wright down ur mileage and find what works for you.
cenex was just a suggestion and was the best choice in my area (as the test plainly shows)
K Billy Bob im sure u didnt expect it was an actual test but... and yes i know the proper test procedure im also sure everyone else went to school on here to but if i wanted a very accurate test i would have put it on a dyno and ran it a given mileage with a controlled climate
with a given amount of dried pure fuel etc...
but see that isnt real time testing... and may yield very different results when used in a realtime environment
theirs a difference between simulation and realtime and never confuse the 2

Message: I think he is more than likely referring to watered down gas or not as refined gas...
To start with, I just want to make this point if you are using this gas... Hot Spot = extremely watered down gas, because they go around and buy up the old gas that has to be pumped from the tanks from other stations, then refine it minorly and then resale for major proffit... I have known of some carburated engines that just filled up with water and would not run at all off of this stuff...
Amoco or BP now will probably have some of the best refined gas on the market, but depends a lot on where you buy it... I know their premium will result in much better fuel mileage, like 1 or 2 mpg increase and due to all of the extra additives it has in it, will stay better longer too... BUT the O2 sensors in the dakotas don't like the premium gas too much from my understanding and it seems that all vehicle computers will grow accustom to it and ping when you go back to regular...
Shell advertises better fuel mileage over competitors, never used though, to really compare...
I personally get midgrade gas from Phillips 66, because only station other than Amoco or Shell that hasn't started getting cheaper watered down fuel grades from else where and I can charge and pay whenever there as well... AND after doing carefull math, I came to the conclusion that midgrade will ussually pay for itself, as long as you do a lot of highway type of driving or "cruising", from the better fuel mileage...
I don't know really which station is the best, maybe someone else on here does, and haven't even heard of cenex before... All I know is what I told you in the above... Hope I was of a little help...

Message: yeah i have to agree with the watered and old gas i had it happen once and its also y i stay away from the alcohol mid grades...
a local construction company they bought some diesel from the local conoco refinery here and at the very bottom of the tank it was full of water but the funny thing was conoco refused to fix the problem and they bought again from conoco and the samething happened again but this time the water destroyed 5 injector pumps and it cost them a lot of money The guy who manages the company swears to never bye any discount gas again especially from conoco
I also know they do mess with the chemistry of the gas so it responds differently to things and sometimes is ment to limit working gas saving devices or fuel additives

Message: Shell gas 87 octane - has additives for
OLDER engines - 1970's - and seems to
have more sulphur than other Big names..
Maybe Not refined sufficiently to remove
the crap..
Usually I find Exxon good - but some areas
may be getting Venezuela oil ( loaded with
Sulphur )
If sulphur in gas - It smells up the exhaust
You will know it...
