Subject: too late for synthetic? IP: Logged
Message: I've been thinking of going to synthetic motor oil in my 2001 CC 4x4.
I've got about 120,000km (75,000 miles) on the truck, the first two years were high mileage. Oil (regular 5w-30) was changed faithfully every 3000 miles or so (basically every month).
I don't drive it much anymore (less than 5000 miles a year).
Can I go a year (or more) between changes with a good synthetic at this point?

I am running the Amsoil synthetic org turbo 10w30
and I change it what works out to once a year
every 6000 miles I put about 10,000 per year on
the truck
I used to use 2 wix filters changed at 3000 miles
but now use the Amsoil SDF42 and run the full
6000 on 1 filter 2 Wix were like 10 something
and the amsoil $10.55 so no diff in cost
I would use a can of there engine flush add to
exsisting oil and drive a little than change over
it will remove all deposites from motor.
In the 4X4 trucks changing the trans, transfer and
rear ends all to Amsoil you could feel the diff
in less rolling resistance and it gaind 1 to 1.5
mpg its not as noticeable in the 2 wheel trucks
but the 4X4's the change over to all syn is very
noticeable, better performance and gas mileage
from the better lubrication that also reduces
heat
