I have a 93 Dakota v6 2wd ext. cab. I bought the truck wrecked and rebuit it in 2001. I have never messed with the A/C system but this summer heat is getting to me. I have bought the conversion kit and seals to replace, but I was wondering if I should replace the evaporator. The system has been sealed but not pressurized since 2001. Is there any way to check it? I would rather not if I can get away with it, since it will be a weekend job to replace it. Thank you all for your imput. I have been reading this site for about 4 months now and I can learn just about anything I need from you guys. I recently tuned my engine with the advise I found here and now I am getting 20 mpg on the highway with 150K miles. Thanks again

What you need to do is replace the seals in the
kit and take it to an A/C guy and have him evac
the system and this needs to be done.

It will remove any mosture from the system and
while the vac pump evacs the system afterwards
you just watch the guage to see if it drops if
not no leaks than it can be charged

If you just charge the system without doing this
the mosture will plug the orfice and the system
will not work

My 92 dodge dakota V6 2wd has an air conditioning problem. The air will not come on by the switch on the dash. If you jump (hotwire) the clutch relay the compressor kicks on and the ac cools fine. It has a new clutch relay and still it does not work. What would be in the dash that would hinder the ac from coming on? Do I need a wiring diagram, (is there one I can get over the internet) or a switch... What direction should I take??? Please help, if you can!!

Did you check the fuse for the backup light? I think that fuse kicks on the compressor and b/u lights.

Tenho dakota 98/99 3.9,V6
Troquei a tbi original por uma de metal com uma tampa que abre quando dá back fire.
Gostaria de saber porque dá tanto back fire???????? ( diariamente).

Poderia soldar, colocar outra, enfim....
Fico aguardando.
Saudações.

What?

Got dakota 98/99, 9 3. V6 I replaced the original tbi by a metal with a lid that opens when gives back fire.
I wonder why gives both back fire???????? (daily). Put silicone to close-seal better cover, because if she is half opened the car loses strength.

This lid opened and broke, I think the piece to inject the gas air conditioning.
I wonder what can I do with low cost to resolve. Soldering, Could put another, anyway ....
I am waiting.
Greetings.

I have a 2004 Dakota that the ac starts out blowing cold air but when the engine heats up it blows warm air. I can see the belt turning the compressor and see the condenser fan running so does anyone have any suggestions what it may be?

Could be the evaporator coil freezing up. There
is a thermistor embedded in the coils that senses
the temperature and cycles the compressor to
prevent this.
When it starts blowing warm air, turn the A/C off
for about 10 minutes and see if it then runs cold
when you turn it on again. If so, that
thermistor, or the connection to it, is defective.
