Message: you will need a can of throttle body/ intake cleaner and a tooth brush. all you have to do is open the throttle all of the way and spray the cleaner onto the sides of the ports and use the tooth brush to clean off the carbon. Then spray the tb again and make sure all of the carbon is gone and turn on the vehicle (it will run rough for about 20 or 30 sec but will clear up). also be carful and do not break the head of the tooth brush in the intake.

Message: I'd go through the hassle of removing the TB from the manifold, removing all the sensors and cleaning out every inch of that TB with carb spray and a brush or whatever. You might want to replace the TB gaskets, you could probably safely reuse them though. They are only a dollar or two or you could make your own with a roll of gasket material. But that's just me, I like doing things right. I'd also spray down the IAC but do not mess with the plunger on it.

Message: Nah, it takes a Torx 25 screwdriver thingy...unscrew em and pull the sensors off. The TPS will need preloaded when you reinstall it, but most will preload whenever you line the holes back up so you probably won't have to worry about it.

Message: Just replaced my TPS today took a 5/32, what an odd ball size. It's not hard just takes a while to unscrew that IAC, those screws are extra long.

Message: mark you can get away with using a hex style like you did for a time or two but if you look really close at that screw you will find it is a star design rather then a hex. repeated use of hex rather then torx drivers in a torx socket will damage the screw head so badly that eventually you will not be able to loosen or tighten it and that could be very bad if it is tight and you need it to be loose. please, for the sake of you mechanic, invest in a set of torx drivers. 5/32 is not an oddball size for a hex socket, it is standard on small socket head cap screws and socket head set screws.

Message: You should definitely remove the TB to clean it. Otherwise, you will just loosen all the carbon and send it into the engine. Another thing is the carb cleaner can foul your spark plugs, and attack your plenum pan gasket. That’s the last thing you need to do, is attack the already weak belly pan gasket!!! Also you can be more thorough cleaning it, if you remove the sensors. It eliminates the risk of ruining them with carb cleaner as well….

an old tooth brush will do a good job.
