Subject: Fuel Filter Replacement IP: Logged
Message: Hey guys got a question for ya... I am looking at changing my fuel filter and I don't want to replace the whole pump setup. I talked with our good old friends at NAPA and they told me that they did not just carry the fuel filter but I could get it from the Dealership. I talked to the Dealer and he was kind of an ***. He told me that I had to buy the whole setup and it cost about 4 bills and some change. Any help would greatly be appreciated.

Message: You have to buy the entire assembly. Try Napa or
partsamerica.com for prices. You need to know what size tank
you have also. Those are the only options I know of next to
going to a wrecker. But you don't want to go to a wrecker do
you? www.car-part.com if you do.

Message: It's a 99 RC with a 22 gallon tank. I did some research before I started this thread and I did see the one you were talking about. That is a possibility but... I don't exactly feel comfortable making mods to my fuel line. I have seen a steady decline in my MPG and I check the fuel pressure and it's comming out strong at the injectors, which made me think that the fuel just wasn't very good when it got there.

Message: Tank filter is NOT the problem !
You " are getting good pressure "
Problem is possible - sensors , air filter
lack of ' cool air ' for intake
choice of oils/lubricants
Or [crappy] gas = I just read a post
in { performance } I think , where
someone was saying " poor quality local gas "
He had " filled up out of State and noticed
both a performance boost and MPG increase "

Message: Worn ignition components will affect good mileage. Is it time for new sparkplugs, coil, cap, rotor, or ignition wires? It's a 10 min job to check and see. Also take a look at your brakes and see if they're draggin on the rotors and/or drums. A sticking caliper or cylinder will drag the brakes and score the surface. Thats another easy to check deal. Hows the Air filter look?

Message: Air filter is clean. New Plugs wires cap and rotor as far as the coil I have not replaced it. Checked the calipers and it seems as if they are moving just fine. The o2 sensor to my knowledge has never been replaced so I might change that and see if it solved any of my problems.

octane - additives are meant more for older
engines pre-1985 , also their additives
will ' eat away' at your fuel sender unit

What a load of crap.
Now if you can provide documented proof of this then I will eat my words.

Message: The in-tank filter isn't a micro fiber type. It's a simple screen.
I think. The square openings are roughly 0.5mm on a side. I
would suggest if you're having issues with a clogged filter the
problem is bigger than just the filter. I recently replaced my
fuel pump, I had 260k miles on it and the filter was fine. It
was dark orange from varnish, but certainly non-resetictive.
