I have a '92 4x4 LE. I stmbled upon this site while struggling with removing the fan clutch assemb. while replacing a water pump. After seaching the site I got some great info and tips how ever nothing worked. I tried a strap wrench to hold the pully in place and tried the screw driver trick with out any luck.

So I took the whole water pump and fan clutch assemb. off. Put it in a vice (sandwiching the water pump and pully) with a shim between the pull and water pump so I didn't bend the pully. Used liberal amounts of WD40 and a BF 24" crecent wrench to finally break that nut lose. Amazingly I didn't damage the pully doing this. Definatly not the perferred way to remove this but another option.

Replace the clutch fan with an electric fan while you have it out and you will no longer have to fight/fool with the cluch fan.

they make a special wrench that fits around all four bolts on the pully , which attach 2 the fan, so u can hold it all and break the nut lose on the fan to get them apart, just another way for tool companies 2 make money but that is the preferred method
