Amsoil -- Climbing Gas Prices, MPG needs to go up

Did you not read MY results?

I have an onboard indash computer in my Lexus that monitors my Total Miles, My Current MPG, My Average MPG, my average MPH, my MPG since the last fill-up, etc.

I purposefully ran the odometer to 9,000 miles using Castrol GTX from the Quickie-Lube (changing the oil every 3,000 miles) ... before I switched to Amsoil 100% True Synthetic SAE 5w-30.

I do this with every new vehicle ... to test the oils by performing Used Oil Analysis, to monitor how much quieter it is using Amsoil, to monitor the fact that the engine runs cooler using Amsoil, and to monitor any positive changes in MPG using Amsoil.

I must see positive results with my own eyes to be able to truthfully talk about Amsoil.

The truth ...

After switching from Castrol GTX (at 9,000 miles) to Amsoil ... my average MPG (per tank) driving a combination of city and highway (living in Manhattan, NYC and commuting to my office across the GW Bridge in New Jersey) went from an average of 16.1 MPH over 9,000 miles using Castrol, to 17.7 MPG for the next 12,000 miles using Amsoil.

When using Amsoil 100% Synthetic Oil ...
an improvement of 1.6 MPG,
or again as I stated earlier ...
a MPG increase of between 9% - 10%
... vs. Castrol's hydrocracked conventional dino (FAKE Synthetic).

My vehicle currently has 21,000 miles on the odometer, the engine runs cooler, the engine runs quieter, and I am getting better gas mileage.

FYI ... The only long distance all highway miles trip I drove was upsate New York and back, 300 miles each way, and I actually averaged 24 miles to the gallon on that trip ... using Amsoil ... and I believe I beat the window sticker (which is still in my glovebox). Using Amsoil, I think that I beat the window sticker ... and that was driving through the hills at 80 mph +/-. I will have to go and check!

Yes ... I have lived, tested, and observed ... first hand and with my own eyes ... everything I have ever stated about Amsoil.

So Steven, let me get this straight: you compared mpg during the first 9K miles of a new car with mpg during the the next 12K of the same car? If that's what you're saying then that's the most unscientific (and invalid) test I've ever seen. Everything I've ever heard or read indicates that mpg tends to get better on a new car after break-in and even after the first 10K or so regardless. Someone WILL correct me if I'm wrong.

Is my test "unscientific (and invalid)"?

Well I'm not wealthy enough to buy two luxury vehicles and test them at the same time.

Using Castrol GTX "Hydrocracked" Conventional Crude Oil ...

16.1 average MPG during first 9,000 miles.
(my average for the last 300+/- miles was 16.2 MPG)

Using Amsoil 100% True Synthetic Motor Oil ...

17.7 average MPG for the next 12,000 miles
(my average for the last 300+/- miles was 17.6 MPG)

... for the last 1700 miles,

(after the 9,000 with Castrol GTX, and the 12,000 with Amsoil),

... I am averaging 17.8 MPG, still using Amsoil SAE 5w-30.

My in-dash onboard computer tells me that I average 24 MPH, (Miles Per Hour), driving a combination of city (NC) and highway (NJ) driving. My drive time commuting is 25 - 30 minutes each way.

My above post should have read ...

I guess I posted "NC" because I am working on a deal in North Carolina.

Then switch back to the Castrol GTX for the next 9K and see if your average mpg goes back down. Or refrain from making claims based on bad methodology.

"bad methodology"?

I have experienced the same (or similar) results in my last 3 "new" vehicles (all three had in-dash on-board computers), and a "used" Jeep Wrangler that was purchased with 21,000 miles on the odometer when purchased, testing between 21k and 30k using dino, and then testing from 30k forward using Amsoil. The Jeep tests were less scientific and factual. The Jeep did not have the computer system.

Allright I hate to just "but in" here, but this Try Again guy obviously has no idea as to what the heck he's talking about... Ok he does a little as to the point he refers to on the more miles = somewhat, but not much better fuel mileage...

Infact on some vehicles I've seen, the fuel mileage actually went down after the first 10,000 to 12,000 miles... Don't really know why but on some it did... Could have been spark plugs or something going bad, but that's besides the obvious point trying to be made here...

I personally have a little over 87,000 miles on my truck currently... I did not switch over to synthetics until 60,000 miles "when I bought the truck"... I think originally it had been driven with Castrol or Havoline 10 or 5 - 30 regular motor oil... With the regular motor oil that was in it I was honestly averaging anywhere from 18 to 21 mpg...

I then switched to the synthetic simply because I wanted to protect the motor the best I possibly could... Well my motor oil of choice "regretedly knowing what I do now", was Mobil 1 0w-30... I also changed my rear diff and tranny over to the Mobil 1 75-90 gear oil... My fuel mileage went from the 18 - 21 mpg to 20 - 25 mpg depending on how I was driving... I could not beleive the difference...

I also changed over to synthetics in my lawn equipment... Well the ol' 25 hp kolher went from guzzling 1 gallon or over per hour to guzzling 1/2 to 3/4 a gallon per hour... The oil of choice here was Mobil 5-30 over the havoline 30 weight oil... Soon to be changed over to Amsoil's 0-30 series 2000 when it hits 100hrs...

Well after building a little performance into the top end of my motor I decided to take even better care of it "since I had over $6000 in it" and put the Amsoil dual bypass system on it along with filling it up with 6 quarts of Amsoil's 0-30 series 2000 motor oil...

Now I can't honestly say that I got a boost in fuel mileage from the switch here simply because I never did a regular oil vs. the syn test... BUT I can however say that I'm averaging 23 - 27 mpg "27mpg was the best fuel mileage I've gotten since the top end build", and I've currently got 7000 miles on the oil and it still has some tanish brown color to it... The Mobil ussually turned pitch black after the first 100 - 200 miles "I have a little blow-by in the front cylinder passenger side", but even with the minor blow-by "blasted junk fuel injector and cracked head from leaned out so much" the amsoil has yet to turn black...

So everyone else can say what they want to... I've seen the results from first hand experiance and I think a lot of the top mechanics on this board have as well and all will ussually use the syn over the dino...

Greg,

Thanks for posting the information, your results,
and for selecting the Amsoil Dual-Bypass Oil Filtration System.

I refilled my gasoline tank this morning. Thankfully I have the in-dash onboard computer that calculates my MPG for me. With this last tank I achieved 18.1 MPG using Amsoil ... vs. 16.2 using Castrol ... an 11.7% increase ... while averaging 28 Miles Per Hour combined city and highway driving.
