The V8 body should help mileage as long as you
keep your foot out of it.

IAT adjuster or a relocate telling comp incoming
air is cold will hit mileage.

The 180 thermo will hit mileage unless the motor
has more mods done, just droping a 180 in a stock
motor will deff drop mileage

Last check on mine was 23.5 mpg city highway
combined

All sythetics will help 1 to 2 mpg I use all Amsoil
Tonno cover will help 1 or 2 mpg

The Pvi injector will help mileage and being in a
good state of tune also helps.

Indexing your plugs will help .5 to 1 mpg

My 95 stock 4X4 only got 17 to 19 on the highway
now hitting close to 24 the check before the 23.5
was 23.8 mpg

Here are all my mods you figure out how I get such
good mileage

F&B 48mm Throttle Body

I can't think of anything else I did to the stock
1992 motor, sanned all sensors needed to replace
a lazy MAP sensor that's it


The motor has excellent performance great low end
and running at 181 degrees

All my customers trucks that are set up the same
way are also getting over 20 mpg most around 22
23 mpg

May be a combination of everything working togather

I wish all of you lived closer to me I could
check out your trucks and tweak them for gas mileage

With the price of gas and having to run 93 with
my stroked motor I have decided to leave this
truck which is my daily driver just the way it is
and finding a nice 2 wheel to drop that into just
for fun,

4.0 stroke
ported custom cam
10.5 to 1 comp
50mm F&B
intake Hughes stage 2 opened to a true 50mm and
matched to the heads
Will be one hell of a motor in front of some 4.10
gears I already have set up in a 8.25 and a 2200
rpm stall converter

i have a 98dak 3.9l auto and get 22mpg with every fill up.
bosh +4 plugs
k&n drop in
electric fan
mobil-1 engine oil
mobil-1 diff oil
mopar soft bed cover
40 psi tir pressure
brass cap&rotor
195 t-stat,lost 1-2 mpg with 180
will do krc timing advance next.
then maby try the fuel atomizer 2000.

Yeah, but take a guess at who can go faster...lol. If you are faster than Larry, then nevermind, but I think most of his mods were done for more power and not specifically to increase gas mileage.

One of the best aids for better gas mileage is to put an intake vacuum Gage in your cab and monitor it while you are driving. Try to drive and keep the vacuum as high as possible. There is a spare vacuum port on the pass. side of the manifold just under the pcv connection.

Larry, I noticed you set your tps to 1 volt... I'm currently running at .8volts ... Will setting it to 1 make it burn more gas or will it add performance out of the hole and not hurt gas mileage all that bad???

Yes but this is a 4 wheel drive and all the mods
were done for power the gas mileage gain was just
a side effect

This is not one of my stroked motors but a stock
1992 mag with over 100,000 miles, new timing chain
and lifters new map and new Bosch 19# FMS
injectors were added all the rest was already in
the truck from my stroker, exhaust ign. ect.

It purrs and is quick for a stock motor dynoed at
161 RWHP after the port match was done

obd 1 systems 92 to 95 you can take the TPS up to
1.2 volts obd 2 systems you need to stay under
.98

It gives you better throttle response and trans
reaction time, downshifting sooner and O/D and
lock up will ocur at a higher speed with less
throttle

No it will not hurt gas mileage but actualy help
the comp will use more agresive timing reading
a higher TPS signal

Thanks Larry : )) If I don't say so myself, for the mods that you've done, the 161 RWHP is very impressive... I'm going to go right out in just a minute and redo my tps to see how it idles and everything...

I know I'm a complete idiot on some of this stuff, so I'm just going to come right out and ask it... What is the PVI injector system that you are referring to???

well my mpg went up to 20 from 16, just by keepin the rpms under 2k and going no faster then 70. (except twice when i burned a ranger)

This is also on 87 octane and reprogramed pcm w/ superchips tuner for the 87 rating.

I also turned off the iat adjuster.

just on that tank alone, saved me close to $10.
Looks like this will be the new driving style for now.

the dakota is back to a dog now with 87 octane and 87 tuned, and no iat.

barely beat a 4x4 ranger i toast easily. I'd say any where from 10-15 rwhp loss.

I think I'll just get the jet stage 2 chip for my next mod, but would like to keep the pvi in mind since everyone appears to be having good results from it...

I keep tinkering with my motor to see what I can do to increase mileage. My best guess is that I am getting about 1 extra mpg. When I run with my iat connected that is in my intake tube I get about 19 mpg city and 19.5 highway if I use the iat in the manifold (stock) I get about 17 mpg city and 21 to 22 highway. I am planning on rigging up a rocker switch like Larry has so that I can switch back and forth. I still think that it is odd that I can get better city mile mileage with the relocated iat. I got my pvi from nationalfuelsaver.com this was where I was referred when I contacted the folks in Canada. I got a package of two pvi's for $169

You said you lost about 10-15 rwhp with 87 superchips? I did the same thing and gained. How do you get you lost? I have Airaid intake, superchips, 40 series delta flow, and a few other changes and noticed a gain.

Yeah, I am saying that when I switch to:

87 Octane Gas
87 Super chips tune
No Iat

from....

93 octane
super chips performance tune
and iat always on at 55-60 degree mark

that’s when I could feel a hella loss in power. I hope gas prices go down again. I really miss being able to smoke em from a dead stop. Can barely get them to break loose on a 90 degree turn.

Save Money on Fuel Costs With AMSOIL

If you get an average of 20 miles per gallon and travel 15,000 miles per year you use 750 gallons of gas per year. Industry tests have shown improved fuel economy of 2 - 5% in vehicles using synthetic lubricants.
However, it has been my experience that most people that switch see between 4% - 8% increase in mpg.
