Message: IAC motor on back side of TB could need a cleaning. Don't push
the plunger in if/when you remove it to clean it. This controls
the air flow into the engine when the truck is in park or idling.

Message: Get a can of carb cleaner and spray it off good
also the seat in the throttle body
with a scanner you can watch what its doing or
look down the hole behind the main bores with a
good light watch it should go back off seat when
engine revs and come back down when you let off
Also check the TPS it may be going bad and will
cause that, volt meter center wire and ground
key on engine off should always return to same
low volt after open close throttle .3 to .7
if it comes down after open and temp reads a
lower reading than normal it will close the
IAC idle air controll

Message: Howzit. Just found this site and got some good info already. I just tried hooking up the msd6a to my 89 dakota and it won't start, just cranks. used the diagram for mag pickup. orange/wht,gray to the violet wire and black to the green wire. orange and black wires to the coil, and red and black to the batt. Small red to the coil +. Am I following the wrong setup? Started right up when I wired the stock ign. back. Anyone with a solution. Thankx

Message: waylon-your using the wrong wiring diagram,
you don,t have a mag pickup, its called the hall effect
the way its wired now is not triggering the fuel pump to come on

Message: waylon kota
Just use the 2 exsisting coil wires to the MSD and
than orange and black back to coil I think
Voltmeter,
1 wire will show a constant voltage while cranking
This is the onn off for the MSD
1 wire will show a changing volts up and down
This is your signal wire
The diagram is not for the 89 dakota but older
mopar motors, all you need to do is pick up the
coil signal for the MSD box

Message: Thanks alot for the info guys, hooked it up today and ran into another problem, the old coil pos wire didn't have the juice to power the unit. tried another keyed source and it started right up. Any answers for that one? Runs better than new no big mods, just the usual, exhaust, 360 air cleaner, 8.8, wires, coil, and now the 6a. I was wondering what tb would you suggest, intake? I also wanted to ask if a 3.9 magnum, 92 or later, would hook up in my 89 dakota and what mod I would have to do. Again thanks alot, you guys ROCKKKKKK

Message: Your 89 is throttle body injection not multi port
On the 89 a set of headers will help power and
gas mileage

Message: waylon-you can also port the tbi by removing the torque step,
if you look down the tb throat down near the throttle plates you,ll see a step or narrowing of the opening before the throttle plates, remove this
making it flow smoothly to the plates,
BUT BE VERY CAREFUL NOT TO REMOVE ANY MATERIAL WHERE THE THROTTLE PLATES MEET THE SIDES[CLOSED]
this can be done by removing the throttle plates and throttle plate rod, then you can reach this area from the bottom.
you,ll feel better power in the seat of your pants, better pull and cruising power

Message: I have a 99 dakota with tranny problems. I have seen by this site that I am not the only one. At first it felt like it was slipping when it shifted into second. Then it started to not want to shift into second until about 3500 rpm. That wouldn't happen all the time. Now it won't shift out of first. I checked the fluid, and it said that it was overfull, but the fluid looked frothy. It didn't look burnt, or smell. It just had air bubbles in it. I have just over 114,000 on her. I was wondering if there was a recall out on it. I know that it is probably too much to hope for, but I thought I'd ask?
