Subject: Hmmm...modify the 6 IP: Logged
Message: Ok guys, i was looking at my "Mopar Performance: Magnum Engines 2nd Eddition" and i was reading up on my v-6. Despite most of the book being just mechanical foot notes and a large advertisment for Mopar Performance Parts, i did notice that the v-6 mag is pretty much a 318 mag with the two rear cyclinders choped (simular to Chevy's 4.3 v-6 which is a 350 choped...i think they should've kept going on the chopping part...all the way to many many crappy pieces). I also noticed the same bore and stroke...which got me thinking. I know for sure, a stronger cast and higher performance 318 piston would fit in the bore, but i was wondering, would the connecting rods do the same? No offence to the many who have taken out the v-6 and put in a v-8, i just want to be different. If any one knows, then please respond, thanks.

Message: The 318 stock piston is the exact same as the stock 3.9 piston. Any aftermarket 318 piston will fit the 3.9. The connecting rods are different though. The 318 rods have a slightly wider perch for the bearing. A v6 crank can be cut to use a v8 rod, or a v8 rod can be slightly milled to fit the v6 stock crank

Message: the rod is what mates the crank and the pistons.

Actually, it's said to be the 318 with the rear half of cylinders 1 and 2, and the front half of cylinders 3 and 4, chopped. But a 90-degree V-6 always will have slight lumpiness to its idle.
