Subject: Gas Gauge IP: Logged
Message: I have a '94 Dak w/ 180,000 miles on her. My gas gauge bounces all over the place and I have to wait until my gas gauge comes on to know whether I need it or not. Is it the connectors or a ground or what? Thnx for the help.

Message: MY '96 had the same problem. I researched on the internet and found out it was the sending unit in the gas tank. I would almost guarantee that this is your problem also. The only way to tell for sure is to let a garage check the sending unit. I must tell you that the sending unit is quite expensive. Mine was over $400 plus labor. Hope this helps

Message: STOP using Shell gas ...
If using "local " station try to find out
whose fuel is being used to fill.
Additives that Shell uses will "corrode"
or otherwise deteriorate your sender.
Not sure if Chryco has a TSB on this..
Actually it is Chryco fault for NOT
using a better quality sender unit..

Message: The gas gauge in my '91 doesn't work well, bounces all over and seems to kinda work at about 1/4 of a tank. Seems to be a common problem and as mentioned above, bad sending unit on the fuel pump in the tank, can be fixed with a new fuel pump (I think). I would suggest just hit the trip meter at each fill up and don't let it get much over 300 miles (if you have a 22 gallon tank) before you fill again. Also, as you said, the gas light comes on when they get low, just annoying though isn't it?
