I have a 97 3.9 Sport with 172,000 miles on it with a cold air intake, 180 therm, and a MagnaFlow exhaust. I was looking into getting the 1.7 Crower rollers and a v8 throttle body, plus going to the Autolite 3923's, but I wanted to know if I would have any problems with such a high m,ileage engine, Mostly all the miles are highway. Have a slight pinging as well. Any suggestions besides getting a new truck, which can't heppen for a while.

run a compression check of all cylinders are close to the same you should be able to go ahead with your mods. The 1.7's will amaze you. Two inexpensive things are relocating the iat and doing the cps mod. all togeather you will be pleased with the increased power. You really need to check and make sure that your plenum gasket is not leaking or blown as this will cause pinging and oil consumption. do some searchs on this site and you will find a lot of info on mods.
