Subject: 97 Dakota starting problem IP: Logged
Message:
My 97 dakota V6 will start and rev up to about 1200 rpm and then drop down till it stalls. i have to give it gas to prevent it from stalling, it will also stall at lights and any other time i stop. Once it is warm it doesn't seem to have as much of a problem, but still will stall when starting. idle is around 750rpm.
Thanks,
Nick

Message: This may sound off base, but my 97 Dak started doing the same thing one day. It would start and then die as it began to idle. It ended up being that I had not gotten a good seal on my gas cap after filling up the last time. Opened and closed the cap making sure it clicked and problem went away and has not come back.
Also, have your battery checked out. Autozone does it free.
