Message: Passing emissions isn't a problem as long as it's OBD-II compliant. (Carsound, Random Technology, and Catco are.)
Gains...well, it does get a little bit louder than the factory cat but performance is only slightly increased.

Message: sorry you just told me, but ive heard some of my friends trucks (which have no cats on) goin down the road and they are so loud they give me a headache. and when they rev it it almost sounds like its backfiring. Is my truck gonna sound like it doesnt have a cat on, and will it make a backfiring noise if i rev it into high rpm's?

Message: No...it shouldn't. I run a Carsound Cat on mine and there's no sputtering or backfiring.
On decelleration, there may be some "burbling" but that's normal. When you decelerate, the injectors suddenly go rich and then really lean (if not off)...that's what causes the burbling noise. (More evident on chambered mufflers than on pakced mufflers.)

Message: Just a note for the California drivers. You have to have the cat thats put on be bought by the same place. Otherwise it can't be warrentied. It's a law in the Socialistic state of Cali. Greg

Message: The cat is warrantied by the manufacturer...not the muffler shop who installs it.

Message: Sorry, but in Cali it's a law that the person who puts it on has to warrenty it for at least 5 years. If there's anyone from cali, please tell bearnd. Thanks, Greg

Message: I was born and raised in San Jose, CA. Also was BAR-90 Smog licensed in that state as well.
I know of three shops that will replace the cat with an aftermarket one and will warranty it via the manufacturer. BTDT

Message: You're problably right but about two weeks ago I went and bought a high flow cat and had a muffler place put it on. They said they wouldn't do it unless you buy from them. Tried another place and the same. Seems like they want to just make you buy theres. Like I said your problaly right but I had a hell of a time trying to find someone to put it on. Greg
