Could you post a link to the auction they were on? Then I could take a look myself and try to help you out.

I think you got ripped... I'm pretty sure those aren't really vehicle specific. They just say it so it catches a specific target audience. More than likely you're gonna have to do a lot of custom fabricating to make it fit. If all else fails, go buy some new tubing and make your own intake. Those are really more of a warm air intake...the best ones that actually pull in cold air run to the front of the truck where the rubber flap was (if it's been removed).

You could get it to work, see if the tube(pipe) fits into the whole on the inlet of the airhat. Then attach the filter to the other end of the tube. It should hold itself in place. Just use the rubber coupler (it should have come with them, but if not pick some up at a local parts store) and the hose clamps. As Josh said, its more like a warm air intake, the pipe isn't that long and your just gonna suck all the warm air comming off the exhaust manifolds. See if you can return it, otherwise try to sell it to a ricer.

Or just get a piece of PVC for $5 and stick your K&N on the end of that and build a heat shield panel to capture air by the fender.

My K&N air intake at the Throttle body top is

I installed an Air Raid Throttle body spacer. I've modified the Air intake with a temporary fix. Are there any others available that are smaller in diameter so the increased height won't interfere with the back of the engine compartment,
Also I changed the plugs from the original equipment Champions to the Autolite 3923's. In the process, I removed the heat shields. Do you really HAVE to keep them on? They are a real pain
when changing plugs. The old Champion's were worn down enough that a .080 wire gauge would pass through in a breeze. I gapped the new ones at .040
and things seem to run better now. I wonder if the gas milage will improve. I was only getting 14
with easy driving.

If he just recently signed up, it sets it to gen 1 as default... also, if somebody answers his questions about the heat shields, I'd be interested in knowing the answer as well. Also, on the gen 3's, how do you remove them? I was under the impression they're welded on...but if not, how are the attached and how do they detach? They are one helluva PIA!

You're right! I just signed up a month ago. What is a generation one or two or theree for that matter.

The shield are mechanically attached with a little
clip as part of the shield that if you compress the whole shield, it will pull out of the cylinder head wall around the spark plug hole.

I guess I'd better go to Air Raid for an answer. I thought that tne board would be able to help.

Sorry I can't help ya as far as the intake stuff goes. I'm running a 10" edelbrock round air cleaner (makes my lil 6'er look like it's got balls...lol). The throttle body spacers don't really do anything on most dakotas...cept maybe the ones with throttle body injection and the carbed ones. I think the spacer is sposed to allow the air/fuel to mix better or something like that, right? In multiport injected dakotas...the fuel and air don't mix at all. The fuel is injected directly into the cylinders so basically the spacer does nothing but waste space and money.

Gen 1 = 1987-1990
Gen 2 = 1991-1996
Gen 3 = 1997-2004

Pretty much describes the major bodystyle I think.

Thanks Josh,
Your answer was a big help. My engine has the throttle body injection, so it may help some. The spacer has what looks like (rifling sp? )on the inside diameter of each venturi. That's suppose to get the air fuel mixture swirling for a better mix. I'll look around for a new "air intake" that will be smaller in outside diameter and fit the horn of the throttle body.

I'm not sure I used the right terminology...your engine doesn't have the injection it's really designed to help for. I believe ours is called multiport injection...the throttle body doesn't mix the air and fuel whereas on the throttle body injected daks (and carbed daks) the air and fuel is mixed at the throttle body (or carb). I think the late 80's and very early 90's daks had em. If I still didn't make this clear enough, somebody else please explain it better.

I would think the advantage of a tb in an injection system would be if the tb has a larger diameter. Using the 'airpump' theory of the engine, the easier to draw air into the engine, the better.

I found this link:

http://www.mitsubishi-motors.co.jp/inter/technology/GDI/page2.html

The idea behind Airaid, K&N, ect... is to remove the constricting, noise damping boxes of the factory set-up. A filter mounted right to the throttle throat would provide the most direct source of air, but unfortunately that means also sucking in the heated engine air. That's why they use the tubes and heat shields to bring in the coldest air possible.

I'm trying to see if I can use the 'Z tube' on my '04 V6 from these guys:

http://www.intenseperformance.com/products/products.html

If it make you feel any better runimuk2, I think I fell for a similar auction. I was supposed to be able to attack the tube to the airhat, but the airhat's opening is a larger oval than the round plastic tube that they sent me. Oh well, I'll just save it and maybe I can use it on another car...

Well Gang,
It doesn't work. The throttle body on the '99 V-6
is only used to allow air into the fuel injection system which carefully mixes the proper ratio according to the EPU. There is no way the "swirling air" from the Poweraid can get into the mixing chamber and still be swirling. Anyway I took the unit off and sent it back to Airaid with my comments about marketing a device with questionable claims.
The Airaid might have some benefit with a regular
carbureted aspiration like older engines without computer controlled fuel injection.
