Every now and then the trany seems to be either slipping
or soft in first. Once it gets into 2-4 gear it seems fine.
Plus it will lurtch (sp?) while at a stop light... but only
every now and then. Tempurature makes no difference. It
does it cold, cool, warm or hot. Checked the fluid
according to the owners manual and it's spot on! Going to
take it to DC for a trany service. Hope that will cure the
problem.

Message: I get the same problems. I have the slippage during high torque like passing! Lurching at a stop is common, too. Let us know what the tranny guys find.

Message: UPDATE: Did a normal tranny service and all seems ok.
I've been driving it for a while now and the problem has
not cropped up again. Even trailered my boat and no
problems showed.

Message: Spoke too soon...
The problem has cropped up again. I found somewhere in
the posts someone else who seemed to have the same
problem, but there were no posts about successful repair
or fixes to the problem.
The problem only seems to show up at stop lights. It acts
like it's not shifting fully into 1st gear. There is a small
"bump" or "thump" like it's in first then slips out while
slowing down at stoplights. When I accelerate from a stop
the truck almost acts like it's in second gear. Also if I put
the truck into "1st" on the column shift it doesn't seem
to fully engage.
Any ideas/suggestions?
Thanks!

Message: well it could be the torque management taking power away by cutting timeing and fuel during leaving a stop and during shifts and sometimes mods make it a little worse i also bet it makes a funky sound when u leave a stop or right when it shifts then when that funny engine sound stops it pulls like crazy
i just cut the wire on mine today cause it was doing what i listed also Larry told me about a flash that does the same there also not to mention some more power
heres the post
http://www.dodgedakota.net/boards/v6/9203.html
but it could also be more serious so letting more power down may not be wise like my truck i would get a bump during a stop and leaving a stop it would jerk hard then feel like it had no power, like it was in neutral
my problem was in my transfer case The chains got loose and the bearing going to the rear drive shaft went out but didnt leak it did make a thunk sound off a stop and during a shift It did all this at 10,000 miles so maybe take a look there and since the chain would allow a jerk when loose it would make the torque limiter kick in at an extreme and really cut timing and fuel. Mine got so bad i could chirp the tires then it would die out (it felt like it stalled) and it would recover then accelerate like grandmas car for a bit then accelerate normally
what did u mean by it doesnt engage fully? u mean it feels like its in neutral or it doesnt put the circle around the 1 ?

Message: A lot of trucks around that year had probs with
the presure sensor and regulator selonoids
Replace around $200 the replacement is a upgraded
unit from chrysler
learching at a stop sounds like a lockup solonoid
problem this should be looked at it can destroy
the lockup clutchs in the converter

Message: Thanks Larry. I was talking to a friend who thought the lurching might be do to a lockup clutch converter issue too. I will have to get it looked at. I wish companies would stop using cheap Chinese parts for everything.
