Message: Well guys, I just bought a used complete engine. We pulled the engine this past weekend, and took off the heads, every valve was bent and every piston had two little half-moon shaped shiny indentations from both intake and ex. valves. Hence, no compression. It really blows me away that I didn't hear anything when this puppy went south. anyway, I will soon be listing spare used engine parts on ebay, I bought a complete engine with a one year warranty for 599.00 and should be picking it up Thursday, after checking it over, I'll let you know what parts i'm selling before listing.

Message: Hey! Thats a pretty good price. I just dropped in a diffrent engine and I paid 650$ canadian but I had to use all the parts off the old engine which kinda pissed me off. Works good except for the charcoal canister keeps burning off its hoses. I was kinda of curious to know... if you have bent valves, well that cause the engine to burn up all the oil, and if not what would cause that?

Message: Update: OK, we picked up the replacement engine, it looks pretty good, lots of compression, I have a coupe of questions. First question, we had to change out some sensors because the engine is a 96 and my truck is a 97, some of the sensors had different connectors. mainly those on the intake manifold, basically what we did was remove the four 1/2 bolts holding the top plate on the intake and swappedout the whole top of the manifold. After hooking everything up we must still have something disconected somewhere because we are not getting power to the distributor. I noticed also that on the back side of the replacement manifold there is a hole which was plugged with a red plastic (by the dismantler)plug, it looks like it's either 3/4" or roughly 1". what goes into this connection??? On the back on my 97 manifold, there are two vertical tabs that are drilled and tabs but no hole running horizonally between the tabs (back to front) like in the 96 manifold?? Any ideas? Thanks again for the help...

Message: 1- dist sensor controls Fuel injector timing
Not spark timing
2- I believe 96 had EGR valve/solenoid
which 97 does NOT ( holes/tabs at rear of intake)
Best way is probably get new intake gasket and
swap entire manifold , sounds like you
only switched the " throttle body " ??!!

Message: 96 had the egr provisions on the manifold, but no actualk egr. The hole in the manifold was plaugged off. The 97 just doesnt have that hole at all, so dont worry about it.

Message: Well, its finshed!! New (used) engine is installed and running great... 80 lbs of oil pressure at idle, it's quiet, no ticks, clacks, knocks or anything! The spark problem was cured with a new crankshaft sensor, and its more powerful then the 97 was. Thanks for everyone's advice, input and help...I'll be cleaning up some left-over parts parts from the 97 engine if anybody needs anything let me know I'll sell them cheap!!!
Best wishes!!!
