Subject: Slipping out of gear IP: Logged
Message: Hey all....98 5 speed 6 cyl...clutch and tranny appear to be working fine...the problem that i just noticed is that i can pull the truck out of gear without using the clutch...and when the truck is off and left in gear with no parking break it will slide backwards in small steps...not sure where to start searching for the problem...any suggestions or experiences?

Message: Are you parking it in reverse or first? The lowest gear ratio is reverse, which has the best holding power. It's not unusual to roll in 3rd or higher on a slight hill, and even in 2nd on a moderate one. Engine compression is what holds you.
As to pulling into neutral from any gear, you can always do that with engine off, and often when driving without clash.
