Is there any modifications that need to be done to fit the K&N cold air kit on a V6 since it is for a V8?

i have #1517 on my 01 dak.......the only thing in the instructions that will not work is the saddle bracket the is supposed to bolt on beside the throttle body to hold the intake tube in place and to keep it from rattling.......you can twist the bracket arm to make it fit though, i did on mine. U__ that's kinda what it looks like....i think i twisted it at the saddle about 3/4 of the way around toward me and then at the other end, a 1/4 of a turn away from me.....besides that everythin was a breeze...o and make sure if you put the bracket onthe bolt, that it clears the throttle cables.....

Is there a difference between an intake for the v6 dakota and v8 as far as horsepower or air flow goes?

wic is right - you only need to mess with the
saddle bracket. The only downside to this
mod is the saddle bracket doesn't reach out
as far onto the tube - it therefore cannot give it
the support it would otherwise have. So now
the tube rests on the heat shield, which
cannot be good over the long run. Once
weather 'round here dries and warms up, I'm
going to revisit this issue and make it perfect.
Also, recheck the "airhat" bolt; it will loosen
over time.
The FIPK does significantly improve power
(how much, I don't know); highway hills that
required downshifting to keep up speed no
longer require it.

I just added V8 TB to mine, PCM still learning but I like it so far.

When you stomp down on it now it really roars , I think some of that may be due to the K&N's 4" intake, Best 1 hr mod I've done yet

Do you need to reset the PCM after the FIPK install? I just ordered mine from SpeedTweaks(#1509) and they said that the modification I would need to do is elongate the heat shield holes to make it fit. Is this true? I should get it middle of next week! Any other tips I need to know before I install?

Per SpeedTweaks web site "TIPS and TRICKS"

When should I reset the PCM:

If you change items such as the Throttle Body, Headers, Ignition System (or any internal parts with aftermarket, performance parts), then you should reset the PCM. Items such as: Plug Wires, Cap, Rotor, Spark Plugs, Muffler, and Air Filter (not intake...filter) don't require this at all. The PCM will gradually relearn as you drive anyway...that takes about 200 miles for a complete long-term learn.

Do these things really work? I have been reading about them and I am willing to do anything to get my milage up another mile or to the gallon. I have read that most of the people here are using them, but do they really work? Or do they just look plain COOL?
