Disconnect negative battery terminal, turn the key to start position and hold it for abou 30 seconds.

Resetting the PCM will help the computer learn everything faster. You don't have to, but resetting it will do it faster than the 200-500 miles if you just let it go.

it does not "help it to learn faster" it just sets it to the factory defaults, it still takes more then 250 miles of driving to get the tables it uses to adjust to your driving style.
