Subject: AMSOIL Antifreeze ?
IP: Logged

Message:
I am going to do a radiator flush and try to remove the drain plugs from the block to try and do as good a job as I possibly can. Is this AMSOIL coolant any good? I purchased 2 gallons of this and just wanted to know if I could expect any problems with it? I know that the different coolants don't mix, but if I drain the radiator and block and then run water through it would this do the job, along with replacing the hoses? Any other ideas? Thanks for the help.

To respect others requests ... rather than providing a long descriptive and my opinions I will simply provide a "link" to another coolant thread here at DodgeDakotas.com

Coolant Thread Including Amsoil Antifreeze Discussion and Mixtures

If you do not find your answer in that thread let me know and I will respond here. Thank you.

However, I will provide a bit of information:

Amsoil Propylene Glycol Antifreeze and Engine Coolant combines the benefits of biodegradability, low toxicity and all-climate protection. It is safer for kids and pets than ethylene glycol coolants, which are sweet tasting and extremely toxic. It offers improved protection against liner pitting, and offers resistance to corrosion of aluminum, iron surfaces and solder points.

If you decide to go with PG and are currently using EG - flush the EG out of the cooling system.

I know that many of the DC FSMs state that Propylene Glycol is not recommended. I believe that it does not transfer heat as well. maybe a consideration if you do heavy towing.

I know PG is less toxic. I just bought PG and the bottle claims 100% compatibility with EG and identical performance. Also, if PG find its way into the engine oil, it is much less likely to damage bearings than is EG.
