Message: dish soap tends to strip the wax on your paint!!! def. not good to use, personally i like the mothers car wash that you can find at any auto parts store. I've found that anything that says mothers on it, gives my truck the best shine (i have a black dak 98), and i've tried about everything. just try it and tell me what you think.
PS. Don't forget to rewax your truck after using the dish soap...:)
Good luck,
Brian

Message: Dish soap wont dull the paint quick enough to make a huge difference, but it does strip the wax off. I'll tell ya what I use...I wax it about once a month and I'll take it to a place where they hand wax it. Down here in Texas you can get the service for $20.00, then I'll wash it once a week with ZIP wax-car wash soap from turtle wax that enhances the shine and brings out the waxy look (lots of suds, its incredible). The bottle cost about $5.00 and I've been washing for 6mo on the same bottle of soap.
Hope this helps!

Message: Dish soap won't hurt it, but apparently it does strip the wax. If you go to the Zaino website, they tell you to wash it with dish soap (I think they say Lux? but I can't remember) prior to waxing. I just use the stuff at the car wash, then Meguiar's cleaning wax, followed by their Gold. In between I use Meguiar's Quick Detail.

Message: Wrong... dish washer soap speeds up the oxidation of your paint finish. Waxing your truck AFTER using dish washer soap isn't something I would do, unless you really rinse your truck well. I don't do it because it may trap some soap under the wax.
Get a product made for stripping off the wax... the safe way.

Message: yo Ll Blackdak,
I've had the same problem with my black dak. I've tried the meguire's system with the paint cleaner, then the polish, then wax and it does ok, definately makes it shine better but wastes a lot of time compaired to the results you get. Just doesn't really seem worth the time and energy. My girlfriend's stepdad is one of the top 3 restorer's in the country (works on only porche's and ferrari's) and he said that what i need to do is use a buffer. My immediate relpy was "won't that leave swirl marks?" he said that as long as you're not too aggressive with it, it won't leave the swirl marks that i'm talking about. He's going to show me how to do it safely, i'll take before and after pics, show you all the results, then post how to do it. I know that he's not bullsh!tt!n cuz he's done it on his black porche and it looks great!!!! but anyway guys use the mother's for now cuz it's safe, fairly cheap, and looks sweet. Good luck guys

Message: Just to give you all an update on the California Water Blade:
It scratched my clear coat on the black Dakota. I had the truck wash thoroughly and made sure it was free of any blemishes and dust to prevent scratches. I also had the water blade washed as well.
I stroked the water blade across the bed rail of my truck and it resulted nothing but a few scratches.
My guess is that the water blade surely doesn't scratch the paint, but it does scratch the clear coat. If you have a Dakota any color other than black, I suppose you won't notice the scratches it leaves behind because black certainly provide contrast. But I bet it DOES scratch the clear coat even if you don't notice it.

Message: I to have a black dak and for me what works is first I use 3m`s glazing compound to clean the surface of the truck its seems to get the surface squeaky clean and then I use Meguiar`s wax. This lets me go about 3 months before I do it again. In between waxings after I wash I use one of the detailing spray they leave a nice shine. I use one of those little buffers because they put on the glazing & wax evenly and easer then doing it buy hand. It might seem like alot of work but there is nothing like going down the road in a shiney black dak !
