Subject: Radiator Flush Question IP: Logged
Message: I am going to do a radiator flush this coming weekend, and had a small question. When I flush the engine should i remove the drain plugs from the engine block, or should I just drain, fill, drain, fill, will that get most out? What is recomended. Also how many hoses are there? i only see an upper and lower radiator hoses is there another and if so where, because I only see two. Thanks for the help.

Message: according to the factory service manual you pull the drain plug(s) out of the block for a complete drain
only other hose is the bypass hose and the heater core hoses, i think you want to flush the heater core seperately so you don't flush radiator gunk into the core or the gunk in the heater core back into the radiator
also don't mix the two different types of anti freeze out there, if you do they will turn into a nice gel which won't do any good for your engine at all
what year is truck.... do you have any problems like no heat in truck?

Message: Um, thanks for the help. Can I use the same drain plugs that are in the block or should I replace them? I have heard that you replace any bolts or whatnot if they were in the engine (ie. drain bolts, throttle body bolts, etc.) Where is the heater bypass hose? I obviously see the two in the front, but where is that one? Is it hard to get to? Thanks for the help.

Message: By the way it's a 1998. I know it's 14 quarts of antifreeze. I purchased AMSOIL antifreeze, so will use that along with water for the 50/50 mixture.
