Message: I gave my truck a tune up last week but forgot about the pcv valve. I got one today and it said for 2002 3.9 v6 (239ci) but i've got a 232ci. Well i got it anyways and didn't see what the huge difference could be. Well apparently there is cause i put it in and the truck runs like crap! I changed it while the truck was running cause it was a quick thing and all and i was in a hurry. The truck raced when i unhooked it cause of vacuum i guess and i plugged the new one in and it shut off. I put it back in the valve cover and started back up and ever since its been running strange and very loud in the intake when accelerating. Got home and put the old one back in and it is fine. Did i mess up the computer by changing when the truck was running or does this sound like the wrong pcv valve? Guess there is nothing wrong with the old one, just did it as a preventative measure after 27000 miles. Any input would be great

Message: Any chance you put the new one in backwards? They're not so different that they would behave the way you said. However, backwards would mean the engine vacuum is holding it shut all the time, and without the vapors it will run leaner and try to compensate by richening the mixture.

Message: did the same thing about 2 months ago. Replaced the pcv with a Deautsch (sp?) from autozone. It ran fine for about a day, then sounded like crap. Thought it was the transmission at first, until I replaced the valve with the old one. Just figured I had a bad valve. I still have not changed the valve, will probably go to the dealer as I do not trust that company anymore.

Message: Is the number that is on the side of the valve cover the CI. Cause the number says 232. YOu're probly right, it may be 239ci, what do i know? I'm not sure how you would put the pcv valve in backwards, it's an "L" valve, very distinctive which end goes in the valve cover. I will check it again though. It was a purolator valve. i'm trying the oil filters so i grabbed the pcv too. There was a part number, and then the same part number with a letter after it, don't remember what it was. I do know that it was definately the valve.
