Message: 1996 D D S V-6 5 Speed no cruise no air Code 34 When its cold it spits and sputters a back fire here and there. When it warms up it runs better but still has a dead spot in the throttle, if you put it to the floor it will take right off.

Message: If you have meter , check Throttle Position
Sensor
turn key ' on ' , probe centre pin to ground
at rest ( idle ) should be approx 0.7 volts
hopefully between 0.6 and 0.8
then as throttle is advanced , should [ smoothly ] increase to close to 4.0 volts
If not , need new TPS sensor

I'd check the EGR system, if you have one, even though the code list says it refers to 1984-86. If no EGR, then TPS is most likely as stated above. They're about $20, easy to replace.

Autozone claims the 96 and 97s have EGR:
EGR VALVE for a1996 DODGE TRUCK DAKOTA 2WD Normal Stock
Item Part No. Warranty CoreValue UnitPrice Availability
Store Web
WELLS EGR362 3 MO $64.99
EGR VALVE for a1997 DODGE TRUCK DAKOTA 2WD Normal Stock

Epaver will be able to tell when he looks at his truck whether it has one or not.

Message: Help! I've got a 92 3.9 that runs like S--t! (lots of people in that boat). Sometimes it starts right up and runs OK, up to about 3k rpm. usually it farts and dies untill it gets warm. NO key code error mesg. If I turn the ign. off & on it sometimes resets and runs OK. If i'm on the road I need to fick the key while just touching the throtle in a gear that pulls low rev's. Replaced fuel filter,O2 sensor,PCV. Found a vac leak & fixed. Same but getting worse slowly. Ignition restart makes me think computer glitch (plus?). please tell me I'm not alone!
