Subject: Tensioner Pulley Question IP: Logged
Message: Hi, I wanted to replace my belt today and when i took a 15m and moved the tensioner pulley to let the belt off it wouldn't spring back into place, so after putter the belt on i had to use the 15m to tighten it up again, I was wondering if it should do that or it is froze. Could I just take it off and soak it in wd40 or something to help loosen it up, if not what parts are needed to replac it? Do I need the whole assembly or what? The actually pulley spins just fine, just the tensioner part is froze any information would be helpful. this is a '98 3.9 v6 dakota, Thanks in advance. Eric

Message: Sometimes you can free it up with WD-40 or similar products and sometimes not. Give it a try and the worst that will hapen is you'll spend a little time on it. otherwise it will need to be replaced, and I belive its pretty simple.

Message: That's how it is supposed to work. You use a wrench to loosen
it (it stays loose) then use a wrench to tighten it. Line up the 2
marks and you know you have it tightened enough.
