Message: Bought the V6 Dakota Club Cab in '97. Had the A/C Evaporator changed in Feb 01. Had the A/C service several times since looking for leak. Just had it serviced again (Apr 04) and it has a slight leak in the evaporator.. Any Technical Service Bulletins or other information on Dodge's Air Conditioner System?

Message: The Chrysler products of the mid-to-late 90s were noted for thin-walled evaporators which leaked. It's definitely a large problem of which Chrysler is well aware, but I don't know how much luck people have had with Chrysler making good on it. I've heard talk of secret warranties.

Message: Thank you for the information. I now have some knowledge of the problem and will have a talk with the dealer who sold me the truck and also replaced the evaporator.

Message: Chyrsler evaporator coils are questionable, the one went out on my 2000 Jeep Cherokee Sport last summer, luckily still under warranty or it would have been a very expensive item to fix. Part alone was over $300 and six hours of labor. My father-in laws 2001 Ram's AC just bit the dust, I bet its the same. Last year I converted my '91 Dakota to R-134a, been over a year and still works great, R-12 evaporator coils are hopefully better (thicker).

Message: HI, I'm allen, and I just bought a DODGE dakota 97, and I got the evaporator broken. Does anybody knows how to take it out. I have already taken out the desk, but there are some screws that I can't take out because I can't reach them.

Message: Can't say for certain, but probably some bolts holding the case to the firewall, you'll need to remove them from the engine bay. Also disconnect the A/C lines and coolant lines. Need to drain coolant and evac a/c system first.
Haynes manual should show, probably be listed under heater core. That is how it is listed in the haynes manual for my 95.
