Subject: Looking for power gains. IP: Logged
Message: I have a 98 dakota sport 5 speed 4X4 with a 3.9L V6 and I am looking to add some horsepower for not a lot of money. What are my best bets for easy cheap power gains? Thanks

Message: I just tried a K&N drop-in filter in the stock air cleaner, seems to give noticeably more power, also deeper truck noise to the engine. Haven't run more than one tankful, so I don't know how it will affect mileage. Also, gapping plugs to .040 gives better low end power, but only if accompanied by a performance ignition coil and wires. Changing only the gap results in flashover on the plug insulators with the stock coil.
Look at the fresh air intake at the grill, notice that it draws only a slit of air from above and below. Drill out the front face of that plastic intake piece, so air goes straight in through the grill into the stock intake tube. More cool, fresh air flowing straight in should help.

Message: the superchips tuner, lots of people have nothing but good things to say about them! well worth the 300, u can add a v8 tb that will cost u about 65$ u will feel the power gain, put a free flowing muffler on it and some pulleys and u will notice a good amount of power
