Message: what if my code appears to be 40 digits?
Seems to display about 13-14 numbers before the 5 ??
This normal, or should I just pull the battery to reset the whole thing and re-do the code test ?

You need to have Auto Zone or a shop read your codes with a code reader. It sounds like you hve multiple problems.

Message: bindy - you should get at least the 55
no matter what.
But if you are really after some codes
disconnect negative of battery
turn key to on then to start for a few seconds
then back off and reconnect battery
Then you should get code 12 followed by 55
BUT , REMEMBER that the computer
will now need 3 to 5 up to operating temp and
up to decent speed trips to re learn
optimum settings for fuel injection . etc..
So , in other words DON'T do it
unless you NEED to.......
