 Subject: 94 Dakota switch problem?

I have a 1994 Dodge Dakota 4x4 with the 3.9 magnum. About a week ago my buddy pointed out to me that the reverse lights were on. Asked around & was told "change the neutral safety switch". So I did that & still have the problem. The reverse lights do not come on in reverse with no headlights, with the running lights or headlights on the reverse lights stay on. Any ideas?
