Subject: 1987 Front Cat IP: Logged
Message: My truck feels like it's getting some back pressure and I'm thinking of replacing the catalytic converter. When I look for exhaust parts online it mentions a 'front' cat. I noticed something on the passenger side exhaust pipe just after the manifold that looks like a mini catalytic converter. Is that the 'front' cat?
What does it do? Should I replace it as well?
Thanks.

Message: At pass. side exhaust is probably the
EGR " tube , Don't touch unless rusted away..
Just replace the cat
However "online info " is probably referring
to newer trucks some of which have 3 cats..
Try another service or just go to local
shop....

Message: I've seen some references to this in the Haynes Manual, in the section where they talk about removing the exhaust manifold, they show a picture of what I'm talking about and refer to it as the Catylytic converter.
Does anyone know what its for? I know I have a second, larger cat fartehr down the exhaust stream, the one that the air pipe connects too.
Thanks.
