Subject: 1987 Front Cat

Message:
My truck feels like it's getting some back pressure and I'm thinking of replacing the catalytic converter. When I look for exhaust parts online it mentions a 'front' cat. I noticed something on the passenger side exhaust pipe just after the manifold that looks like a mini catalytic converter. Is that the 'front' cat?
What does it do? Should I replace it as well?

Thanks.

At pass. side exhaust is probably the
EGR " tube , Don't touch unless rusted away..
Just replace the cat
However "online info " is probably referring
to newer trucks some of which have 3 cats..
Try another service or just go to local
shop....

I've seen some references to this in the Haynes Manual, in the section where they talk about removing the exhaust manifold, they show a picture of what I'm talking about and refer to it as the Catylytic converter.

Does anyone know what its for? I know I have a second, larger cat fartehr down the exhaust stream, the one that the air pipe connects too.

Thanks.
