Subject: Temp Gauge/ Sender ???? IP: Logged
Message: I had a problem last fall before I stored my truck for the winter. The temp gauge would fluctuate a bit like it was getting hot (not sure if it actually got hot or what). This to me sounded like a possible head gasket problem, but then I noticed I wasnt losing coolant ever. Then one morning I turned the truck to on (truck was completely cold, hadnt been started yet) and the gauge read 260 deg??? Is this some kind of gauge, temp sensor/ sending unit problem? Im not sure how I would find this out. Im trying to get the truck ready to get out of storage this weekend but I want to get this issue taken care of before I start to drive it again. Any help would be greatly appreciated. THANKS

Message: The temp sensor is very cheap just replace it and see what happens. Cheap easy troubleshooting step. If it doesn't cure the problem you aren't out even $20.

Message: Located behind alternator, down in intake manifold
1 wire
If the wire somehow shorts to ground it will send
the guage all the way up
