Here`s the deal. I need to drop a new engine into my 89` dak. I`ve decided to just put in another 3.9 litre. I`m just looking for some good advise on some things I should maybe do to increase my the performnce of the truck, since I already have the engine out. I`ve been told as well that it would be a lot of work to put in a 318. As anyone out there done the swap from a 3.9 to a 318?

Actually, it's one of the easier swaps. All your stock wiring and fuel system will work, as well as computer. You'll need the bolt-in crossmember kit from engine_swaps.com if you use an LA block, as well as traditional engine mounts for a 318. Use a Magnum block, and the 3.9 or Magnum engine mounts will do. Use at least a fresh A500 with a large tranny cooler and TransGo kit, preferably, move up to the A518. Induction is up to you. The stock PCM will run a stock TBI 318. Remember, the 318-powered 1989 Shelby Dak started out as a V-6 sport, and had very little in the way of mods....pretty much what I've listed here. You would also need an electric engine fan and V8 distributor.

here is the way i see it, you could put in a premag 318 and have barely over the horsepower rating of the magnum 3.9 or you could put in a magnum 318 and have some fun... i personally would love to find a 318 to drop into my 93, but money is tight..

Yeah, though the buildup potential of the 318 LA or Magnum isn't being considered. On an LA 318, a decent cam, 4V induction, and good exhaust will net 100hp and 80+ ft/lbs torque and that's with stock heads.
