Subject: Powerloss after fuel injectors IP: Logged
Message: I recently installed a set of the Gen III fuel injectors on my 1994 3.9L dak and lost a whole lot of low end. It's running really rich and the comp doesn't seem to be leaning them out right. I haven't replaced the O2 sensor yet, I plan on doing that this weekend. Since there is alot more fuel I assume that a larger throttle body would help. I'd really rather not swap the old injectors back in as it was a hassle getting them out. With these how much air is too much btw? should I stick with a 48mm tb or go with a 52mm tb since I plan on supercharging it later in the year. Any help/advice would be appreciated.

Message: I reset the comp, and the idle is actually rougher, which I attributed to the cyl's bogging down from too much fuel. The idle had dropped to around 400-600rpm, but after installing my MSD6a it's back to its usual 600-800rpm idle. Still lost low end.

Message: You shouldn't had had any loss at all nor rich running... So like the last guy asked did you unhook your battery to reset the computer???
The biggest TB you can use on your stock intake manifold is the 48mm... If you port out your intake holes where the tb mounts you can run the 52mm, but not until then...
Did you get the 19lb injectors or something bigger, because that too can be causing your problems... Esspecially the running rich part...

Message: I did unhook the battery and reset the computer. I'm using the 0280155909-F83E injectors from FiveO Motorsports, btw, which are listed as 19lb design 3 injectors. Giving the running rich, power loss and rough idle...does it sounds like a bad injector or something? The fuel pump was just recently replaced(two weeks ago) after it died when I was driving home from work. So, a fuel system diag was supposedly performed and part of that was check the fuel injectors for pulse width and such.

Message: I would replace the o2 first and get a few
hundred miles on the truck and let the fuel trim
back
They will run a little rich but should not do
what you are describing.
squirt some oil around them and see if you have
any leaks this will temp block the leak or you
have a vac leak somewhere
oil on intake side of injector a leak on the rail
side would spray gas
If you put the clip in wrong location the will
not seat in the holes all the way, I have seen
a few people do that its not hard to do
You have some other issues there

Message: New question:
My '94 dakota recently has been running really rough--esp in stop-n-go traffic. It idles so rough I think it's going to die at stop lights= very scary. Also, it wants to lunge when at a complete stop then it sputters and lurches until it gets up a full head of steam. At first, I thought transmission, but now I'm thinking dirt in the fuel line or maybe injector build-up?? Help! Any advise, thoughts as to my truck's problem would be greatly appreciated. I have a good mechanic, but I want to speak as though I know something when I take it in. He's already driven it once and of course it didn't "act up" for him so I'm back to square one. Oh well, hope someone out there knows what might be wrong.
Thanks.

Thanks Larry for all the things I should check re: my'94 dakota. I can't wait to take it in Monday and sound like I actually understand what I'm saying! Hopefully, a tune-up and all that you mentioned won't be too labor intensive. Thanks.

Message: I have a 94 Dakota V6 Automatic, my problem only comes when I am lower than half a tank of gas, it begins to studder and lose all power, this is usually at highway speeds, or on larger inclines when the fuel in the tank shifts. If I were to fill up the tank, no such problem exists, complete pedal to the medal full on power. Any suggestions? I've tried additives, can drive short in town distances right to an empty tank. Cheers Any help would be appreciated

Message: Davo, it sounds like your fuel pump is just about worn out. You can rent a fuel gage/ pressure tester at some auto parts stores. I suggest you do that and get a service manual to make sure the fuel pressures are up to spec.
