Subject: 3.9 vs 4.3 question IP: Logged
Message: Sorry if this is a double post, I'm not used to this forum setup. Ok I'm from www.s10forum.com and there is this kid who has listed this as a good refrence for Daks, this kid has an Ext Cab 3.9 Dakota 4x2 w/ some 18's and I'm thinkin a lowering kit too. He has the basic cold air intake and 50 series flowie. The point of the post is, he comes on the forum talking about how he has raced and beat 4.3L Xtreme's and even a S/C 4.0 Ranger and beat them everytime. Is there some hidden power in these 3.9's that no one has ever discovered until now? He also claims that stock for stock a 4.3 will lose to the 3.9- I'm not hatin on Daks and I like em a lot- just curious. Here's the link- the 2nd and 3rd pages are where the action is at.http://www.s10forum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=99016&page=2&pp=30 He is dodgedakotaman98 incase there was any confusion. Thanks Guys.

Message: Okay...obviously I'm a dakota lover and first-off I must say, it's great that you were able to come over here and bring this up in a completely mature manner. Anyway, I personally am not a huge fan of the S-10's (friend owns one) although the Extreme's do look pretty nice with those bodykits on em. ...but I do think that if you put a stock 4.3L up against a stock 3.9L, the 4.3L would smoke it. S-10's are lighter and as far as I know, the 4.3L puts out more hp and more torque than the 3.9L. Of course, there are some factors that MAY change that...stock gearing, auto/manual tranny, the driver etc. Those mods he has wouldn't make him a whole lot faster than stock either. I think he's just trying to brag because he's got mods and he thinks everyone he passes is racing him. I have friends like that. They like to show off and claim they raced some V8 Camaro or Mustang and smoked em in their stock Cavalier...yada yada.
'FYI' for anyone... just because you are side-by-side and you suddenly floor it and gain distance on them, does NOT mean they were racing you. For all you know, they just laughed and said, "Look at that dumbass...he's gonna end up getting a ticket!" and kept on cruising down the road.

That is "his truck"...found in the viewer's rides section which hasn't been updated in a looooooong time. Also interesting enough is I've seen those pics of "his dad's truck" posted on another website a long time ago.

Message: Yeah, I pretty much pulled the BS flag on that one. On a sidenote, my brother has a 92 Dak w/ the 3.9 and an Auto tranny- just thought you might find it interesting that it has 210,xxx miles on it w/ the original tranny- it doesn't even slip yet! Also, I need a good website for Ram Vans, because my band just bought an 85 RamVan 350 w/ the 5.9 but tranny is prolly gonna let go here in a few months- just curious where I can find some info on them. Thanks man!

Message: If you look at specs for the S10 4.3 L engine and the Daks 3.9 L engine. Both of them put out about 180 HP and around the same torque. The Chevy's just waste more gas.
