Subject: oil pressure drop off IP: Logged
Message: I have a 97 3.9 it has 90,000 miles on it. 2 years ago I replaced the oil pump and bearings because of constant pressure loss while driving. It has been fine until recently but know I loose pressure while at idle in traffic or at a stop light. While driving the pressure is between 40 to 60. This is at normal operating temp. Any suggestions?

Message: My 97 Dak does the same thing. This oil change I put in a can of STP oil treatment and so far over the past 2k, the oil preasure has not dropped as much at idle. I plan on changing over to Amsoil products at next oil change. I currently have 155k on my 3.9l and have not replaced the oil pump.

Message: Try a Wix filter for a 1988 318 ram they are
a little longer and will flow more and the relief
valve in them is a little higher it will help oil
presure at idle
cant remember the # off hand, I use these on all
the daks and rams 3.9 5.2 and 5.9 in the shop on
changes
How ever if there is excesive bearing clearance
nothing will help except grinding the crank and
replacing the mains and rod bearings

Message: Drop some 20W50 in there and it'll stop doing that. Dude, you're in Miami. You need heavier oil.
