Subject: High Idle IP: Logged
Message: I have a 90 Dakota, manual transmission, A/C, 98,000 miles. It suddenly started idling about 1500-2000 RPM and won't come down. I disconnected the Idle speed adjustment seloniod until I can figure this out. Does anyone know what would cause this? The Haynes manual doesn't really point me in the right direction and Pep Boys are trying to tell me to buy a new computer. Any help is appreciated.

You'll probably get one for the AIS by unplugging it, but hopefully something else revealing. Or it may be stuck and that's the problem. Does it idle OK with it unplugged? No stalling?

Message: Once in a whilee the TPS throttle position sensors
will hang up and cause high idle
Check center wire and ground should be between
.3 .7 key on engine not running go up as throttle
is opened and always return to low volts.

Message: Thanks Larry. I will give the TPS a try, should I just replace it. Is it a inexpensive part? And what is IAC?

Message: IAC is at back of throttle body.
and No , you should not have to replace TPS
