Subject: oil ???????
IP: Logged

Message:
Every time i change my oil or have it changed. When I check the dipstick it is allways over the full mark by almost 1 1/2 inches. Could this be a really bad sludge problem? If it was I think the engine would be dead by now. MY dad thinks it's the wrong dipstick but i don't think so. My oil pressure is allway low at idle and high on the highway.

Any input is appreciated

Thanks

Same thing here, maybe an inch over the full mark. Always wondered myself why. I get mine changed at a very reputable Dodge dealer, and everytime it is over the mark. I dont know if it is sludge or not (hopefully not).

BTW it is normal to have low oil pressure (min 6 psi is ok i think)at idle and high on the highway.

Thanks DaffyDak, My dealer put in 5 and told me 5. I just looked over the owners manual.....its 4. Would this be the cause of my engine running rough at times and dieing when I let off the gas in reverse?

Thanks for the help
Gotta go change my oil now.

I use the origanal turbo 10w30 and for me change
every 6000 or 6 months it works out to once a

Have run it 9000 with 3 filter changes but I am
going to try the Amsoil SDF42 this time $11
something still less than the price of 2 wix
filters

The XL 7500 stay away from it is not a true
synthetic

Have the filter and oil sitting down stairs in
front of the couch just came today and will be in
tomorrow morn

Just ran some reg with the flush to clean out
this 92 motor befor the switch over.

I run all Amsoil fluids and grease even in my
John Deere Lawn tractor thats a fun machine
hydrostatic with cruse controll man it flys can
cut this big yard about 1 1 1/2 acres in just over
1 hour LOL

Pop a few wheelies and do a few donuts it will

but in the full-size version with a "belly-mower".

ccman, I always use the mobil m1-204 oil filter, but then again it's $12 tax and all, and is only second best to the amsoil filters... I use it simply because it does the best job of the widely available filters around here and it's a pain to rely on orders to order the amsoil filters, allthough I would like to get the amsoil bypass system someday since I'll be putting 140 miles on her everyday Monday through Thursday starting this Monday... Only I'll be putting them on the mustang until I get the truck ready for a while yet...

Steve how much would the bypass oil filtering system for a 99 3.9l dakota cost??? Along with some 0-30 motor oil "4 quarts"...

Larry hows your newly rebuilt engine doing??? Can you really tell all the differences??? Had er dynoed yet... Or still waiting on the syn and a few more break-in miles :))

I haven't been on here in a while so I don't know if you've posted anything on it yet or not...

Still trying to get my own engine back together and now krc is telling me that the crower guideplates are on back order and there's no telling when she'll hit the road... Kinda dissapointing :// Really really frustrating...

Has anyone run or running the bypass system from Amsoil??? Can you tell if it's still running strong after many many years??? I'm going to be putting 140 miles on the truck as soon as I get it up and going and was just wondering if anyone has tried it out or not...

I've seen the results on diesels... All being good of course even on 20000 mile oil change intervals... I would personally just run 10000 mile oil change intervals but that's just me :))

Thanks Again,
Greg

AMSOIL By-Pass Oil Filter - Amsoil Bypass Filter
IP: Logged

Message:

Amsoil Bypass Oil Filters

Engine wear is caused by dirt particles larger than 5 microns. The AMSOIL By-Pass Oil Filter removes particles as small as 1/10 of a micron, virtually eliminating engine wear. AMSOIL By-Pass Oil Filters filter all the oil in a six-quart system in about five minutes at an average engine speed equivalent to 45 mph.

Product Code BMK-11 - By-Pass Filter Mounting Kit

Retail Price = $161

Preferred Customer Price = $120.50

(You can become an Amsoil Preferred Customer for $20 year)

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

The AMSOIL By-Pass Oil Filter provides the best possible filtration protection against wear, oil degradation, rust and corrosion. Working in conjunction with the engine’s full-flow oil filter, the AMSOIL By-Pass Filter operates by filtering oil on a "partial-flow" basis. It draws approximately ten percent of the oil at any one time and traps the extremely small, wear-causing contaminants and water that full-flow filters can’t remove. The AMSOIL By-Pass Filter typically filters all the oil in the system several times an hour, so the engine continuously receives analytically clean oil.

Thanks for getting back with me on this...

I was actually wanting the info on the bypass system that has the regular engine filter in conjuction with the bigger finer filtering filter... You know like what you see on big rigs or diesels... The one where the two filters are together in a different location and uses stock oil filter location for the oil line hook up and return... I guess it's called a full flow bypass system... "( I honestly don't know what the name is, but I hope you know what I'm talking about)" May even be the one you've listed, but the picture shows otherwise :))

I actually kinda like the idea of 6 quarts vs. 4 quarts... I know the amsoil has all the additives for perlonged usage, but have yall had the chance to test your 0-30 against mobils new 0-30 that was suppost to been out this spring only I haven't seen it yet??? I guess due to stock still being in stores of the old stuff and not got any of the new yet... I haven't talked to my other oil man to see if he's tried it out or not in his mowers yet... He's running the bypass system on his new F-150 and he seems to like it awfully well... He too does quite some amount of driving...

Thanks again for getting back with me on this and I'll be looking forward to your responses on this... I may just go ahead and sign up and order everything ; )) I think it would more than pay for itself in the long run :))

Thanks Again,
Greg

Steve I just thought I would ask another question real quick before you have a chance to respond on all of the above...

You wouldn't happen to have wear charts for the following would you so as I can decide on just which oil I would like to run in my engine :))

0w-30
5w-30
10w-30
and the 10-30 turbo
and the 10-30 hd diesel oil

I was planning on running the 0-30 since from what I've seen on some of the charts on it, it is suppost to be the best and the fact that I allready run it in the truck with great results in the Mobil formula so I'm expecting really great things out of the Amsoil... BUT if the 5 or 10-30 is better, I might consider one of them, allthough I like the quicker flow rates of the 0 and 5-30 weights... AND the fact that I run 0 and 5-30 weight oils in all the other vehicles and even my new mower ; )) Only thing that doesn't get them is the diesels and that's more to do with my dad paying for the oil going into them...

Please get back with me as soon as you can on this...

Thanks Again,
Greg

Amsoil Series 2000 vs. SAE - AMSOIL - Dodge Dakota
IP: Logged

Message:

Greg,

You do not want to use the dual bypass. The one
recommended is the one that you should install.
__________________________________________________

Most visitors to this site know how I feel about Amsoil Series 2000. Amsoil's SAE 5W-30 or 10W-30 Synthetic Motor Oils are excellent oils and have shown to be almost the same quality as the Series 2000. IMHO ... Amsoil 10w-30 gives you the best bang for $$$, and it is the oil I use.

Amsoil Series 2000 0w-30 is the more shear stable of the two Amsoil formulations (Series 2000 vs. SAE). The Series 2000 also reduces friction (better gas mileage -- fuel savings of approx 2%-3% in comparison to the 10w-30 in short trip driving), protects from heat and wear better, better engine cleanliness than the 5w-30 and 10w-30 due to higher detergency, better cold weather performance --- in any high performance application, --- and will provide the lowest oil consumption in older vehicles that are experiencing oil consumption problems.

Special note: Amsoil Series 2000 0w-30 can be used to in place of 5w-20/5w-30/10w-30 oils. I'd even recommend it in engines that come with 0w-40 or 5w-40 grades.

My choice? I use the less pricey of the two. If you drive your truck "hard" --- you might be happier with the Series 2000.

How about that. A salesman not trying to talk you into the higher priced oil ; - )
