Message: I have a 03 3.9 cc auto 2wd. I was looking at installing a Gibson cat-back exhast. I had also seen that i can replace just the muffler with a flowmaster 40 series. I already have a custom cold air intake and a superchips programmer. What would be my best option for performance and sound?

Message: I don't know about best option, but the Dynomax 17748 sounds pretty good to me. A little more rumble than stock but no sound heard inside the cab at highway speeds. Depends on what your looking for. You may even try the Dynomax 17733 which in a shorter muffler but be warned it maybe to loud. Summitracing.com has both, I think I paid around $50 for the 17748, but you could get the 17733 for probably around $35 plus about $40-60 to install. Make sure you have 2.5 inch exhaust to start, worked on my 2000 V6 dakota std. cab....

Message: What if you want to go with dual exhaust? I have an 02 3.9 2wd, and I love the look of the dual. Right now my truck is bone stock, and I was wondering what the best options for exhaust are.

I have a 97 dak with the 3.9, I opted for the flowmaster 70 series. I liked it, not much louder than stock. My son has a 92 dak 3.9 with the 40 series-it is very loud outside and in the cab. I would suggest the 50 series, it's slightly louder than stock at idle, it's quite a bit louder when you tromp on the gas peadal. But it's not so loud in the cab that you can't stand it, a nice balance between performance and loudness.

mufflers not produce horse power, all of them reduce it just some reduce it less then others.

Message: Thanks for the info. I think I'm going to put the Flowmaster 40 series on my truck. It is already loud in the cab when I'm on the gas because of the Intake, Louder is better!!!
