Message: I need hardcore information about the swap of a new 3.7L v6
for an old (shot to hell) 3.9L. The rig is a '94 4x2 Dakota. The
3.9 is mated to a 5 speed manual tranny. The 3.7 has a new 5
speed manual as well. Should I simply drop the 3.7 and it's
tranny in place, what do I have to do to the computer, do I need
a new computer? Should I give up and just get another weak,
pounded 3.9? I appreciate any help I can get.

Message: Best to get the 3.7 computer , hopefully mates with connectors OK
Although I believe the 3.7 vehicle would have
another O2 sensor which 3.9 does not
( after the cat )
Could be much better to just get another 3.9 ??

Message: Thanks for the info. I pretty much figured I should stay with
the 3.9 but it was worth a shot. I saw th 3.7 with tranny with
only 3 miles on it on ebay for $1500. The best price I've seen
on a reman 3.9 is 995 + 400 core (but my core is shot or
cracked shall I say) Oh well.

Dakota, or a 73 dart, or.........a neon! Add a supercharger
and......... ah sweet bliss.........

you watch, my 3.9 is drinking milk and will grow big and
strong one day.

Message: Hemivpr, If your thinking about switching to the 3.7, you had better get the computer and wiring harness. The 3.7 is too new to know if anyone has tried the swap yet. Even if you could get all the components you still have the problem of hooking up the wiring to your existing gauges. There is a big change from the 94 OBD-1 to the newer OBD-2. OBD-1 computer one larger connector, OBD-2 computer 3 smaller connectors. Newer OBD-2 computers have to have the VIN number flashed into them to communicate to communicate with something in the dash called the BCM. I think stands for BUS Control Module.

Message: Wadak - thanks for the info. That's pretty much what I
expected as far as the computer issue. It was just a shot in the
dark to see if Chrysler would upgrade the engine with the same
componentry - like the new body of the 97 dak with the same
old engine line up (save the 360).

Message: I gutted my 97 dakota, and put a 426 Hemi in it straight from the old Hemi Dart, and it's packing a super charger, only putting out around 500 horses right about now, but it's enough to scare you in a truck.
But thats the closest thing to a Hemi Viper i could think of, Hemi in a dakota, packing 500 ponies.

Message: Well all right Darious! You are my kinda gearhead. What
about the new viper v10 in the dak! The power to weight ratio
alone would scare a new srt-10 owner. Then add the
supercharger you were talking about. Man this is exciting
stuff! That would be a nice face off project for some magazine
- hemi dak vrs v10 dak.
