Very pronounced engine misfire occuring simultaneously with erratic shifting between 3rd and 4th gear, with finally no 4th at all. Oddly, aggressive operation of vehicle temporarily cures this condition. At first I suspected an electrical problem, but I've had no luck pinpointing one. Now I'm at my wit's end. Thank you for your help.

Message: 4th gear/od is electric-controled by the computer,
that gets info from the map,tps and other sensors to shift the od on or off,the switch on the dash lets you shut the od off.
my question is this if you shut the od off does this erratic shifting stop?if you have,nt tryed this,
try driving it with the od off for a day or so to see if the problem is gone.
if this helps, the shifting and misfire may be the same thing or the misfire could be causing the erratic shifting, try a tune-up plugs, wires, cap etc
