Subject: Mod ideas, which sounds better? IP: Logged
Message: hey guys, i've got an '02 dodge dakota. pics - http://www.dodgetalk.com/gallery/showphoto.php/photo/3401/password//sort/1/cat/500/page/1 i've
anyway, ive done some pretty basic mods so far,
*-3.9 V6, Automatic, 3.55 gears w/ Powertrax No-Slip, *-Superchips programmer, *- Fastman Throttle Body, *- S bolt in the air hat, *-Intense Performance stage II intake, *-SummitRacing cap, rotor & wires, *-Autolite 3923s, *-180° thermostat
i've got plans for some upcoming mods, but i dont really want to break my bank. i either want to do
a) 1.7 roller rockers, hi-flow cat and maganflow, possibly upgrade the injectors (the five0performance stage IIIs)
or
b) 4.10 gears
which would be the best overall? i'm leaning towards the 1.7 roller rockers and exhaust, since that would be cheaper and probably wouldnt hurt my gas mileage, maybe even help it. i do some freeway travel and im leaving for college in the fall, so im trying to save my money. which do you guys think i should do and would be the best overall?

Message: go with the roller rockers and the exhaust. the gears would crush ur highway milage! i have 390's and @ 65 im turning 2600 thats with a 5 speed. but i would have to say 390's were prob my fav mod

Message: Yes, deffinitely the 1.7 rockers and exhaust. Both will not hurt your fuel economy, it will probably go up. In addition you'll get a gain a little more in your low end with the rockers.
In order to really take advantage of all this though I think you might consider a good ignition system, MSD or Jacobs and a better coil. LOL

Message: thanks for the advice fellas. yea im thinking of going to an msd ignition as well, ive heard good things about them.
i live here in idaho, and the freeways are at 75, so 85 isnt uncommon. i really like the response of my truck with these gears, it seems to do just fine. i think im gonna get on the 1.7rrs and exhaust soon. thanks again for the input!

Message: You already have 2 very important intake mods done
cold air
fastman throttle body
Take advantage of the better flowing TB and add
the 1.7 rollers
The only thing left on the intake side would be
a gaket match on the intake manifold it really
helps flow.
After the 1.7's than do the exhaust
High flow cay like car sound
low restriction muff
After that you will be ready for better injectors
and ign and will see the gains with a better
flowing motor

Message: RacerX, I do have one question for you. I thought that the superchips programmer was designed for the 3.9l Dakota with little to no mods. How is the superchips programmer working for you with all of the mods you have done.
I have a 97 3.9l and when I checked out the superchips frogrammer, I got told that it would not work for my engine with all of my mods.

Message: my superchip works great with my mods, i installed it last of everything that ive done so far, and it runs really strong. i think what they meant by mildly modified when they said that was not going to extremes like internal mods, boost, etc.
thanks for the advice all you guys, i think larry pinpointed what im planning to do. can't wait to get even more grunt out of my sixer :)
