Subject: Reading Plugs, Cap and Rotor IP: Logged
Message: I need a little help reading my plugs, cap and rotor.
Today I replaced the plugs, wires, cap and rotor. The bottom of the cap contacts, and the rotor contact had some white residue on them, kind of looked like battery corrosion. The end of the rotor also looked a little melted, kind of like a bad weld in a single spot.
Also, the 3,4,5,6 plugs also had this stuff on the metal hook (what is this called?)
So, what does this meam? The truck has ~80,000 miles. It is a '97 3.9l CC. The cap, rotor, and wires were all original, though the plugs had been changed once.

Message: What you see is oxidation. It is common on 1 or all the electrical connections. It's not something to be too worried about. Just a word of caution, cleaning and changing the plugs, wires, cap and rotor a little more often might be a good idea.

Message: the "metal hook" is called the side wire, at least by Champion.
