i was driving and all of the sudden my truck died. my truck will turn over but won't start. I'm getting no spark. could this be because of my ASD relay. if so is there a way to reset it. I don't have a manual to my truck but it prob tells you in there. thank you
Rob

I have a 1994 Dodge dakota and was in and accident. The truck will not start. It turns over and that is all. I believe the shutdown relay may need to be reset or something. I have checked the fuses for it. I know on some trucks that is the case. It there a reset on the dakota. What else may I try.

Chris - look under the underhood fusebox.
Unwrap the tape on the harness about 6 to 10 inches
find a splice of 3 wires--redo it if green or
otherwise doesn't look good..

There is an ASD relay under the hood in the PDC.

Have you checked to see if you are getting fuel?

the splice mentioned is a common problem.

I have a 1994 dakota 3.9. I found the three wires mentioned above and clean them up. Engine won't start. Have no voltage to coil or distributer. Computer shows vehicle not responding. Installed rebuilt PCM, still no response. Checked auto shut down relay and other relays and fuses. Relays are not responding when key is turned on.
Ignition switch has proper voltage. Can some help me?

1998 dakota 4X4 Intermittant Shut Down
IP: Logged

Message:
I have a 1998 Dodge Dakota that intermittantly shuts down after running for a while with no ignition spark. The Auto Shut Down Relay (ASDR)has been replaced and it has been to checked for codes but there does not seem to be any reported.
It was noticed that when running properly the ASDR is fairly warm. Is this normal ? After a cool down period the truck will normally start with no problem. Any ideas ?

Thanks in advance

If the ASD relay is good it could be the CPS(crank position sensor). They are known to produce these symptoms.

Swap the ASD relay with another(they are basically all the same) and see if the problem corrects itself.

Thank for the recommendations. The latest is that I've changed out the Crankshaft Postition Sensor and that did not correct the problem. I was told by one mechanic that perhaps the new CPS was bad also ???

The auto Shut Down Relay has been substituted several times.

I am not sure what ECU stands for but will be checking into that.

Thanks for the suggestions.

The Ignition Coil has been replaced.

The symptoms remain the same.

I have a 97 Dakota Sport 4x4: Have no problems starting when cold and the truck runs great after starting, but when it gets to norm operating temp and I turn off the truck and try to restart, it cranks but doesn't start. I am looking at all of these posts and getting started going through one by one. Right now the cam position sensor has been replaced. If that doesn't do it I was going to move on to the ASD relay. Has anyone had any luck with anything else?
