Well I know if they put a Hemi in a Dakota I would buy it for sure. My next truck is going to be a Ram 1500 Quad Cab Hemi Sport..... but if they put a Hemi in a Dakota I think I will have to get that. I was researching it a little bit and a website said that they are going to produce the 3.7 V6 with 210hp and 235lbs torque... then a 4.7 V8 with 230hp and 290lbs torque... then they are also going to make a 4.7 High Output V8 with 250hp and 300lbs of torque.... If anyone heard anything different about a Hemi or something let me know!!!

it will be awesome...my dad works at warren stamping(chrysler) in warren MI, right next to dodge truck which makes some of our trucks. the word right now is that the new dakotas will be getting 345hp sometime soon. it may not be till next year, but it will happen. Steve

I have heard that the new hemis in the dakotas will only have 335 h.p. like the durangos...dont know why but i know this is true for a fact unless they change it.

Hey You all must be really rich and all, to buy a new dakota, with a hemi, especially when the gas prices are hitting the $2 mark! I will love if I could special order a new dakota with a cummins, now that would be sweet.
But I was wonderin, I think I read the chevy colorado has a I5 and gets around 240 HP, and dakota's 8 gets 230? right?? how did they pull that much out af a 5? someone told me that the inline is always better, if so.......why doesn't dodge make one???!!

oh yeah, I went to the dealership recently and saw a 1500 with a HEMI, thing looked like it was on life support, wires...EVERYWHERE!. oh well I guess thats how everything will look soon

Who cares if the dakotas ONLY have 335hp instead of 345.... That is a lot more than my v6 has! I would be happy with 335... put a few mods on it and it would be closer to 375-400.... I can't wait!

I heard the 5.7 hemi dakota will be rated at

Still will be fun to drive one.
As soon as I see one on the lot I hear 2005 or 06
I will be test driving one.
I tell you guys a way to have a nice sat. clean up
your truck and go to the diff dealers and test
drive some trucks.
Take a friend and spen the afternoon having some
fun.
We do it all the time SRT10 will be in michigan
soon need to test one of those to. FUN!!!!
Just tell them your thinking about buying and want
to see whats avalible, I have taken 1/2 hour test
rides, check the gas guage and complain there is
not enough gas for a through test and they will
put more in.
A 5 min ride is not enough time to see how the
truck feels.

Dodge HAS an inline engine. Its called the Cummins. Mark my words. 10 to 15 years from now everyone will be driving diesels OR hybrids because of the oil situation. Biodiesel will become more and more common. Heck you can run a diesel on french fire vat grease. I saw a show on it on the discovery channel I think.

Ok not to be a downer or anything but you don't want a new dak.The 05 dak is going off the same platform as the Durango an has more problems than good points (an there dead ugly too). I work at a dealer an see them in all the time. Every thing is ran off the computer if you change one thing you screw up 18 more there not worth the trouble. But hey thats just my point of view after preping 200 of the Durangos for sale. (note hemi still rock)

Well, yes the new dakotas will have the hemi. Do I want one, hell no. Once again dodge managed to ruin a great looking vehicle (first time being the durango, second the dakota). I'll keep my 99 and look for a hemi from a new one. I'm not driving that ugly p.o.s. new dakota around.

chevy uses what is known as "Chevy Horsepower' which is way different from real world horsepower, besides if you can get a hold of the power graphs for the I5 you will find that it has LESS torque then the 3.9 horsepwer with out torque is useless. A friend of mine has a Chevy suv with the I5 in it, we went on a hunting trip last fall, I filled up with gas and drove about 50 miles before meeting up with all the other guys at his house, we had two guys and all their gear in each vehicle. We left his house drove about 40 miles when he had to stop for gas. Then drove to the hunting grounds many miles away. Both vehicles were parked for the weekend untill leaving time as we could get 4 and guns into the 2 SUV's that went with us. We all left together. before we got to the big city my bud had to stop gor gas as his gage was on empty and his low fuel light was on. I still had almost a half a tank. Our gas tanks are, my Dak 22 gallons his Chevy SUV 20 gallons. Now considering that I had driven around 90 miles before he got a full tank and he drove the same distance less the 90 miles I did, and still had about 10 gallons of gas on board which one would YOU rather buy gas for?

the I5 has 220 hp and a little more torque. Its not better because it's an I5, it has more power because it has DOHC with VVT technology. GM got the 270 HP I6 they have and whacked a cylinder off to make that motor. Also, the I4 that is in the colorado makes 170 Hp because.. it too is just the I6, but with 2 cylinders missing. It's 2.7 liter 4 cylinder.. pretty big.
It's a decent motor from the looks of it on paper, but i have read a couple magazines and they they gave it "LOW"'s for not offering a V6 (i believe it was car and driver).. yet it makes more power than the other V6 trucks.
Now the problem with that I5 is that its a revving motor (DOHC) and not grunt.. it will never compare to the torque of a V8.. which is what a truck needs.
