whats the difference between a normal cone air filter and a cold air intake? Whare does the cold air come from?

1.) A cone filter goes at the end of a cold air intake.

2.) The cold air is coming from the outside air. The purpose of the cold air intake is to locate it where it will pull in more outside air and less warm air from the engine bay.
