Just bought a Dak. Noticed when I was changing the air filter that the foam gasket on the bottom of the air cleaner that sits on the TB was completely dry-rotted. Got me to thinking that instead of finding a replacement, I should just get an open element and K&N filter. I know you're supposed to get a slight power increase and maybe even better mileage, but I'm wondering if anyone knows if that'll effect emissions. In my area we have emissions tests every 2 years...
Anyway, any help would be appreciated. Thanks

most open air cleaners have a port on the bottom side to run the pcv tube to.

all they can complain about is the pcv not being hooked up.. and if you do that, you should be set.

just change back to a cheapo filter when its time to have it emissions tested.

I have a drop in K&N and it does help slightly with mileage, not too sure about performance gains aside from the truck breathing easier.

I don't know if performance is important to you or not, but you do realize if you put an open element air filter on you are going to be sucking in all that hot engine compartment air into your intake. Yuck.
