Message: Bob,
I am not positive that my fuel pump was replaced since I did not change it myself. The dealership did. All I can go by is the invoice they gave me with the listed work said they did. So that is good for me. They did say that I should get my AIS Motor (Idle air control sensor, IAC) This was in November. I told them just to change the fuel pump. Then I waited until about 2 weeks ago to change the AIS, Do you think that in this past 5 months since I waited, that it could have made my fuel pump go bad again?
Also, I still can't get over why my truck "dies" when I am driving. I am going about 35-40 and then all of a sudden it feels like I put my truck in neutral. I get no throttle response but the rpm's are at about 900 and my truck doesn't sound like it is running. But then after about 5 seconds I get my throttle back and it kicks back up... It is really weird. I need help! Maybe its time to make a stop at the dealership....

Message: badassdak,
I don't think your new fuel pump would have gone bad so quick, but again, a check of the fuel pressure will help. Also, there is a "quick-release" in the fuel line on the inside of the frame rail just under the driver's side door (well, at least there is on my '94). You can disconnect this by hand. If you truck stalls and will not start, disconnect the fuel line there and crank the truck to see if fuel comes out.
Check and clean the crank position sensor as well. As I understand it, if this sensor goes out, the fuel pump will not get the proper signal.
HTH. Good luck and let us know how it works out.

Message: I know I am getting fuel to the engine because i took the cap off of the fuel rail and pushed a key down in it and gas squirted out. I will have to get my TPS changed and maybe the crank position sensor, hopefully they are not too expensive at autozone.

Message: Ok to add on to the problems of my truck...... Yesterday I started up my truck and I my Instrument Cluster didnt work. None of the gauges moved. So I turned off my truck and turned it back on and they worked! Do you think that this could be the computer going bad? Do you think the computer could cause the stalling that I am getting?

cluster not work = probable wiring / fuse /regulator

Message: My 2002 kept doing the same thing. I took it back to the dealer three times for the problem. The service manager told me that he was getting alot of dakotas doing this. Finally they did something with the computer and the wires(?). This seemed to fix the problme so far. I have had water leaking on the drivers side floor. They found the problem and fixed it, and my rotors were totally warped at 16,000 miles on this dakota. Either i got very unlucky with my selection or they are peices of crap. I am hoping that it was just my bad luck.
